Unfortunately there are MANY reasons why a sound card stops working. The 1st place I would look is in the Device manager.

Go to your start button ~~> Control panel ~~> double click system ~~> Select Hardware tab ~~select device manager button and look for sound, video and game controlers controllers

If it is expanded then you have an issue a yellow ! icon means there is a driver error a red X means that it is disabled

to fix the yellow ! double click the problem driver or controller reinstall the Sound card driver which can be found on your mainboard CD

to fix a red X right click the problem driver or controller with the mark and select enable

Best of luck with the issue

if all else fails you always have the option of purchasing A sound card that fits into a PCI slot.

If you can't install the driver please post response and let me know what kind of sound card is installed ac97 or whatever and I will dig you up a new driver to try..

Good luck and please remember to rate the helpfull meter

Cannot instoll my motherbord sound card drivers

Check device manager. This can be done in Win XP by right clicking my computer, properties, hardware, then click device manager. Alternative way to enter device manager is by clicking start menu, control panel, system (performance and maintenance), hardware then device manager.

In the deice manager window see if any question marks or exclamation points are visible.

If so, see if it the mark is for an audio device.

If it is an audio device, uninstall the device.

Next, try to install the sound card driver again. If that fails, the enter the device manager and uninstall the sound card again, restart the PC, ignore the hardware manager, and try to install the sound card driver software again.
