thanks but the noise is definitely coming from the cd/dvd drive.
The comuter will turn on and then it seems to be trying to boot from the cd rom.  At first you had to play around with trying to open the cd rom to get it boot...now that doesn't always work.  We turn it on and off continuously.  Then we close it up. Give up on it.  I then think okay...I will fix it...and turn it on and it boots up.  That happened tonight and now I am attempting a compaq pc recovery......I am at 70%

That clicking is more than liekly your hard drive and there is nothing you can do to prevent it from failing, back your data up and consider migrating to a new computer or ghosting your hard drive. BACK UP YOUR DATA. once it crashes that disk will be nearly inaccessible.

-good luck-

Compaq Presario 2500 stopped loading windows XP with a prompt STOP: c0000221 {bad Image Checksum} The image COMCTL32.dll is possibly corrupt. The header checksum does not match the computed checksum.

This error is not the same as a CMOS Checksum Error, which refers to corrupted values of the CMOS settings, the ones you set through the BIOS setup program. This error means the contents of the BIOS code itself are damaged.

During the boot process you will see on the screen to press delete to enter setup
Press and hold delete during the boot up process to enter BIOS you can load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults ,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
click start control panel date and time you can make your adjustments to the date and time from there also right click on the date and time on the bottom toolbar (bottom of screen) you should see Adjust date and time tab
hope this helps you

I have a presario 2500 laptop and it will start go to the windows xp loading screen then will go to a blue screen with just the windows xp logo and cant do anything after that but move my mouse

click f5 before xp starts to load. choose halt on error and record code. google that code. most often it is a bios error after a new install (memory...etc.) sometimes you can boot into safe mode to undo a recent change. if all else fails reinstall...could be bad hard drive boot sector also.....check code first

Compaq presario 2100 laptop, starts to run, then goes to black screen with start in safe mode etc, then a blue box appears, gone before you are able to read anything that it says, then laptop restarts...

Check the mounting screws on the cd burner, yes you have to remove the keyboard and speakers, and check the two visible mounting scews.....I rescently bought a used presario and discovered the yo-yo didn't mount the cd rom properly(no screws)...The screen you saw flashed is the BIOS,also check fitment of all plug in type accessories......
