First put in new batteries, switch the camera on and GENTLY try pulling the lens if any of it is showing outwards, then switch the camera off. If none of the lensis accessible, try holding the camera with the lens pointing down and GENTLY tap the camera body to see if there is and dirt os dust ingress.
