Hi there
The power supply should be ATX 20pin connection and also a 4pin connector, look at this picture below so you know you have the power connections in the right places>>need2 know wiring diagram 4 power supply 4 a emach - ba37bd3.jpg
On the top left of the picture, the big cream 20pin socket is where the 20 pin connector goes.
In the middle to the left you will see another cream 4pin socket is where the 4pin connector goes.
If your power supply does not have the 4pin connector the pc won't boot up, you will have to go out and buy one.
If you have all the connections right and the on/off button is connected to the front panel properly, take out the system memory, clean it with a clean, dry, soft pain brush and also clean the slots too, re-seat the memory and reboot the machine to see if it boots up.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!!

Old emachine T2642 will not boot...disk monitor LED stays on and CPU fan does not rotate...no boot access to CD-ROM, or disk drives...changed power supply...think it might be BIOS backup battery...

It sounds like a dead motherboard. Try removing the CMOS(BIOS) battery and replacing it. Then try removing and replacing the CPU as well. If you get the same result then you might be looking at replacing the motherboard.

Emachines T2642 Motherboard

It's either a dead power supply or a fried motherboard. Emachines are cheap junk, their power supplies and motherboards die all the time, just look around here on Fixya for proof. Instead of saving a buck, consider buying a better brand.

I have an Emachine T2642.hears a pop and the power went out on pc

As long as your hard drive didnt go, you will still have all of your files. Chances are your Motherboard blew. Motherboards have capacitors so they can make popping noises if they blow

Emachine t2642 power supply

Apparently this model has a bad motherboard, which manifests as a power warning and eventually a refusal to boot up. You can replace the power supply (as far as I know, any generic one 250-watt or better will work) but it's unlikely to help. You can buy a new motherboard (and new power supply, if you want to) direct from eMachines, but it's also likely to fail pretty soon. Your best bet is to get a new computer (NOT an eMachines one) and put your hard drive in as a slave so you can get your data off.

Need wiring diagram for emachines t2200 motherboard

If you are replacing the power supply and it has 4 pin 12v conector and your motherboard doesn't, just disregard the 4 pin plug. The 20 pin conector will supply sufficient power for the processor. Many of the older motherboards did not have a separate 12v supply for the processor.
