Question about GE JVM1440 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Installation of undercabinet microwave

I am replacing my GE microwave model JEM25 that was undercabinet mounted by developer. I got the same model for replacement and confirmed the under cabinet mounting kit is compatable, however I don't have the instructions for mounting. There are four screw holes on the top of the microwave and I would like to know if I can simply use the existing mountin brackets and mount the microwave as is. The developer had a metal casing aound the microwave that was then mounted. I can't get it off due to stripped screws but it seems that the metal case is not necessary since the top of the microwave has the screw holes. Is it okay to screw in the top of the micro to the mount without the metal casing that the developers used with the old micro?

If the OTR is the same model, the mounts should be the same. As long as you use the same bolts/screws from the old one, or the same length new bolts/screws, it should be a fairly simple exchange.

Please be sure the oven is unplugged.

There are two Phillips head screws on the very top of the outside of the cabinet above the vent.

When they're removed the vent grille just snaps out.

In some cases, an installer may have installed the oven so that the screws are covered up by the bottom cabinet. I hope that's not the case here...

SOURCE: Replacing a GE Spacemaker Microwave Oven

I don't mean any offense in my solution, and I urge you not to "kill the messenger" when you rate my solution, but I need to give you the facts as I see them.

When the oven failed to work right, it should have been taken out of service until it was properly repaired. Just jiggling the door would not qualify.

I couldn't imagine Sears having been found to have any liability for this, since the oven was known to be failing and it was used anyway, and it was apparently left running unattended, which every manufacturer warns against in their owner's manuals.

This post will be the public record of those facts.

It was almost certainly failing due to a bad door switch or door switch mount.

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

Maybe your insurance company will cover part of this damage, but as far as any liability goes, I'd say Sears is in the clear.

But I'm not an attorney, just for the record. I just work for them in liability cases in my capacity as an electronics expert witness.

If you do happen to file suit, I would be more than happy to give a statement on this, so feel free to contact me with the case numbers and court info.

Good luck!

SOURCE: NEED TO REMOVE WALL MOUNTED GE JVM1190BY002 MICROWAVE

I also have a JVM1190 and was baffled as to removal. My very handy brother solved it in two minutes. Above the door and keypad there is a long grill secured by two small squarehead (Robertson) screws. Remove the screws and grill and you will see on either side of the opening a long bolt. They go through to the back of the microwave where the support plate attached to the wall. The bolts have a slot in the middle for a flat blade screwdriver. Simply turn the bolt to release from the back plate. Make sure there is a helper underneath as the microwave is fairly heavy. Do the reverse for re-installation.

SOURCE: What size are t top mounting screws on the GE JVM1350 spacesave

You may be looking for the philips flat head 1/4 x 28 tpi (threads per inch) threaded bolt that is about 4" long. The tip of the bolt does not have threads, which aids in locating the threaded hole in the top of the microwave:

General Electric's part number for their OTR microwave cabinet mounting screw is WB01X10180 (or AP3205964 or 942461 as listed on some repair parts sites).

A set of three is GE's p/n WB01X10125 (or AP3185225 or 910236 as listed on some repair parts sites).

This flathead screw is used on most Advantium Speedcook microwave ovens such as the SCA2001BSS03 or SCA2000FWW03 or SCA2001KSS03.

Here's a picture of three screws:

Just wanted to know the size of the GE profile microwave model JVM1660BB005. Is it 1.5 cu ft? Looking at a new model JVM1540LNCS to replace it and want to use the same mounting hardware.

In GE microwaves, the first 2 digits of the model number are the cubic footage. 1660 is 1.6 cubic foot, 1540 is 1.5 cubic foot. Take care trying to use the existing hardware, the exact placement of hardware and upper installation screws may vary from year to year or model to model..

GE profile spacemaker XL1800 undercabinet microwave - how do you change the 2 lightbults under the microwave. I can't get the bulbs out.

There are several screws on the bottom panel that can be removed. After you remove them, the metal plate can be removed or just lowered at an angle. Using a flashlight, you will see the two bulbs that probably need replacing. Pull the wire down, and they can be easily removed and replaced.
Hope this helps.
