Question about Coleman Tools & Hardware - Others
I have an Evcon furnace in a closet enclosure in my hall way, model # BGM08012CX. Inside the front cover is a small, brown-colored box with a cable attached and the other end of the cable going to what looks like the in-coming gas valve. The auto pilot light will not light or stay lit if the cable is not pulled up hard to insure contact somewhere inside the brown box, I guess. My question is, can I replace the brown box or some other part causing the problem, or will I need to buy a whole new furnace? Thank you for any help you can provide for me, I really appreciate it.
Sincerely, Bert Brown

No you do not have to replace the whole furnace, the bad news though since it has something to do with the gas, This is the ignition module (or brown box), you have to be a certified HVAC-R Technician or company to buy the part or do the repair

if you know what the flame sensor is try gently cleaning it with sandpaper they get gummed up sometimes and don't sense the piolet flame, if they don;t see a piolet it will not allow it to kick the gas on

i think it is your fan because when it is supposed to come on (when hood is hot enough) it won't,...and when the gas valve doesn't get the o.k. from the fan that it is working, the unit will shut it self off so it doesn't over heat. Gas boilers and furnaces have alot of safety things like this,....see if the fan has an oiling place on it. I've seen control panels cause this too,....replace whatever is cheapest first. good luck

Testimonial: "Thank you very much for your response. That makes sense and narrows it down. I will keep an eye on it. The fan motor when running is quiet & smooth"
