I downloaded the manual for this set from LG's site and looked at the back panel diagram, and their instructions for connecting audio out. This set has only a digital audio output available, and your receiver probably has no input for that. Sadly, this means you can't connect the TV audio to the receiver.

What you can do, however, is connect the audio from an external source such as a DVD player, cable converter or satellite receiver to the receiver, and connect the video from the device to one of the TV's inputs. Then you could listen to the sound through the receiver. If you want to, you can use a Y-adapter (two, actually, since you have right and left channel sound) and connect the source audio to both the TV and then you would have the sound through the TV speakers as well. When using the TV's internal tuner, you would have sound only from the TV speakers.

You can get a converter but it only converts from one optical form to another. The digital audio output is a laser light source (the manual actually warns against looking into the end of the cable), and the RCA inputs on your receiver expect electric voltage on copper wire. It would probably be more cost effective just to buy a new receiver with optical input ...

Hey, that's an idea that didn't occur to me before. Look around for a cheap receiver with a digital input, and feed its record out connections (sometimes labeled "line out") into one of the inputs on your current receiver. Then you could use the output from the TV.

I have a 50PG2 and it has (& also in the manual) an AV port out for an external second monitor or TV. (2 x audio and 1 x video) . I feed the Audio from this port to my receiver for general audio whn not wanting the full theatre running. Can also use this port to feed audio to standard definition DVR for recording (downgraded) HD programs off air.

I suspect its a component (Capacitor) aging and eventually would need to be replaced. How do you have it connected? Is there a cable box or Direct TV receiver that you use to display TV Channels? If 10 years old does it even have an HDMI input? Should be very happy you got 10 years of life out of this Plasma. My thoughts is that it would take more to repair this than to purchase a new LCD or LCD/LED thinner TV. Plasma does have the best color but the LCD and LED TV's are much lighter/take less energy and are much brighter. Good luck.

I am receiving cable and have sound but no picture on my LG LCD tv. One day the pic just went out. It is about 7 years old.

Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

Anything new has a chance of failure the first month or so from cold solder joints on circuit boards. If it passes the first month it may last 8 or 12 years. Send it back under warranty.

LG LCD TV 37LP1D digital freeview tuning problems

Hi - I have the same problem. Also in Cornwall LG were not interested in helping because the TV was 3 1/2 years old. There was a possible fix in the end offered via LG at a cost of £180 + vat - a hardware update that might or might not work but I was not going to pay that so I now watch my LG 42 plasma via a £25 digi box from the CO OP. LG must have sold 1000's of these Tv's so when the digital switch starts in the more populated areas of the country I exect many more web postings.
