Question about Kenmore 24032\24036 Top Load Washer

The wash tub in the washer drains as fast as it fills.

I have a top load Kenmore. When I pull the knob to begin the washing process, the basin starts to fill, gets to a certain point and then drains as fast as it fills. it goes on forever if you don't turn it off. I thought it was the timer. I installed a brand new one but the problem still persists.A friend suggested it might be that the "anto siphon" is plugged. I have no idea what that it, where its at, what it looks like and how to get to it. Or does someone think its a different issue altogether?? Please help.

If there are no obvious signs that the water is leaking out of the wash tub onto the floor, the cause is usually due to improper installation of the drain hose. Check to make sure the standpipe or wash basin is a minimum of 34" high to eliminate the possibility of siphoning.

Thats what it sounds like to me, chances are your drain hose iether runs along hte floor, or is taped in to the drain pipe securley, perhaps even directly piped into drain hose into dry well?? you definalty creating a siphon when the macine enters teh rinse cycle. you can purchase and "air-gap " from the plumbing supplier/ home improvement store. or just redo your existing drain line

When filling my Kenmore washer to begin a load of laundry the water enters the tub like it is going to wash but immediately drains onto the floor and the "water sensor" never tturns the water...

This either due to a detached "water sensor"/pressure switch hose or a broken drain/leaking drain pump. Disconnect power then remove the screws securing the console to the top of the machine. Pull the console forward then up and lay it back on the hinges. The screws are located at the rear of the console, front corners of the console, or at the front corners of the console under the end caps.

My 21882 top load Kenmore washer will start the cycle but stops after filling up; i can restart the cycle by pushing the knob in and going a little further in the cycle then starting again. But after a...

When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

Remove the drain hose from the stand pipe at the wall and place it in a large bucket. Simple gravity will allow the water to empty from the wash tub. That is, as long as the drain hose and/or drain pump is not clogged.

Another method is to use a wet/dry shop vac to pull the water from the tub basin. Depending on the size shop vac, you will have to empty it several times as the wash tub capacity is usually about 33 gallons.

If you need further guidance, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Kenmore washer...the water just runs it never fills up.

I have seen this problem numerous times on service calls. It sounds like you have a siphoning problem. The key symptom is the wash tub that continously attempts to fill, but cannot achieve the proper water level. This is often caused by not having an air gap on your drain line, improper placement of the drain hose, or a standpipe that is too small in diameter. The following link explains:

    http://www.fixya.com/support/r587481-prevent_washer_siphoning

If you place the drain hose in the standpipe too far, or seal the top of the standpipe, this can cause a vacuum which will cause the symptoms you describe. A tell-tale sign will be a sucking noise as you pull the drain hose from the standpipe. Read through the link I provided. If this does not correct your problem please post back and let me know before you rate this solution. This way I can try to assist you further. I hope this corrects your problem.

Water runs into tub but does not fill?

be sure the drain hose is not lower than the wash tub this will caust the water to run out, 2nd be sure the drain hose is not pushed to far into the house stand pipe and the there is rome for air to go inbetween the drain hose and stand pipe eather of these will cause the machine to siphon mostly on rince cycle or on the 2nd and third loads you do. last your house drain could be starting to back up fill the washer with water and listen to it drain if you hear a gurggling sound in the house pipe you may need a plumber to cleanthis out for you.

    Water just runs through tub

The problem you are experiencing is called "siphoning". Check the drain hose going into the standpipe (drain pipe). If the hose is shoved down in the standpipe too far, or if you've sealed the top of the standpipe where the hose goes into, you have created a vacuum and are causing the water to continuously drain. The drain line needs an air gap to prevent this problem. Pull the drain hose back out enough to allow an air gap and make sure you don't have anything covering the top of the standpipe. Hope this helps.
