Question about Weber Baby Q Grill

FLAME WON'T TURN DOWN ON WEBER BABY Q

After a four year love affair with my Baby Q it has just cheated on me. It has really high flames now. On low, it is about twice as high and hot as it ever was previously on high.....on high it is a virtual flame thrower. It is unusable, everything gets burned. Any ideas as to why? Or should I just start a new love affair with a newer model? Thanks.

SOURCE: My weber Baby Q grill has a low flame.

Agree with rjmbridge. I called the Weber support people and was told that there is a built in safety feature on the regulator that will cause the flame to burn at a low setting if the gas within the extension tube to the large tank and regulator is not allowed enough time to equalize. They suggested turning on the gas from the tank very slowly, allow about 2 minutes with the temperature control knob turned off, then turn the temp knob on and light. This worked for me.

SOURCE: cannot get good flame on the burner of my baby weber grill. I've tried cleaning it checked hose, tank, regulator, seems to have good flow, but low flame only, even when set in high????????

I had this problem with a brand new grill so it wasn't grease in the hose. Due to the new propane regulators you have to turn the propane tank on for at least a minute before turning the grill to light. Let the tank sit in the light position for five seconds and then you light the grill. This will keep air from getting into the intake hose and will keep your gas flame roaring high.

I was only able to get the grill up to 250 degrees before I found this fix posted on the Weber site. It is listed as the number one solution in the FAQ section.

I don't seem to be able to get the Brickettes Hot

Whether using a gas canister or a tank, To solve this problem, first be sure you have adequate gas in the tank. If that checks out OK, do the following:

1. Turn the gas tank valve OFF and disconnect the hose from the tank. Or remove the canister from
it's holder.

2. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the hose to the tank. Or reinstall the canister into the holder.

3. Open the tank valve or canister valve VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion, slow).

4. Once the tank valve is fully open, light the burner and set the burner
control knob on HIGH. Does the flame height look correct for being set on HIGH? If so, light
any remaining burners the same way. Do all the burner flames look correct? If so, you solved
the problem. Remember, to always open the tank valve Very, Very Slowly.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa. Happy Grilling!!

I have a Weber gas grill, and I just replaced the propane tank, yet when I ignite it on the Start/High setting, very little flame is produced. This is the first time in 5 years or so that I've...

Don't worry, you'll be grilling in no time, if you follow these instructions:

1. Turn the gas tank valve OFF.

2. Disconnect the grill's hose from the propane tank and wait 5 minutes.

3. Reconnect the hose to the tank and open the tank's gas valve VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow Motion, slow).

Once the valve is fully open light one burner and turn it to HIGH. Has the flame height returned to normal? If so, light the remaining burner and turn it to HIGH. Do both flame heights look normal?
If so, you solve the problem! Remember to always turn the tank valve ON Very, Very Slowly.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know and Happy Grilling!!

I love, love, love my baby webber. I bought it when they first came out. I can only use the tall, blue propane bottle. I seen some where that they were using the short, wide, green one. My wire guide...

The easiest solution to this problem is to remove the screw securing the wire tank holder in place, and then just bend the holder a little bit wider so that it will fit the slightly larger 16 oz green tanks found in the camping section of most stores.

You can even buy buy a hose connector adapter for it so that you can hook it up to a large home barbeque type propane tank if you want. See the following consumer reviews of that unit for more details and ideas:

Thank you and good luck.

Low flame. less than 1/4 inch high. Solution? Tried disconnecting/reconnecting hose to tank. Very little change in flame from low to high.

After you disconnect the hose from the tank, wait 5 minutes before reconnecting it. Then turn the tank valve ON VERY, VERY SLOWLY (slow motion, slow). Once the valve is fully open. Light the burner and turn it to it's highest setting. Did the flame height return to normal? I f so, problem solved. If it didn't remove and clean the burner and the venturi valve, Spiders like to build nest in them. If after all of this, the flame height still hasn't returned to normal and you're sure you have a good amount of gas in the tank. You'll need to replace the grill's hose/regulator assembly. You can find one at any home center or hardware store that sell gas grills and accessories. Take you old one with you for comparison purposes.

Hope this time, Your problem was solved. Happy Grilling!!

Low and intermittent flame of weber Q 220

You can try replacing the regulator to cure the gas flow problem, I believe the ignition is a piezo, if it does not click when you push it or turn it, it most likely needs to be replaced. If it still clicks, then there could be a bad wire or electrode.

Just bough weber Q200 grill. Is it normal that the flame burns so low and blue?Used to large flames off conventional grills. Thanks.e.

I have used the Q-series for 2 years. The blue and low flame is absolutely normal. Weber's philiosophy is of avoiding flare ups when grilling for best taste. I love this grill - very easy to clean, uses less gas and makes great food.
