Is the hard disk detectable in the cmos setup? to know how to enter the cmos setup look for the press "DEL / F2 / F10 to enter setup when you power up the pc. check for the boot option under cmos and check the hdd if cmos can detect it. otherwise hard drive has a problem. if hard drive is detectable, try reinstalling windows xp. other means is to check boot sequence by pressing F11 during start up. this will display the option on which you would like to boot from.

Format external hard disk on mac i have an asus leather case 2.5 external hard drive, and it's read only. my partner asked me to wipe it and put my music on it, but i clearly can't. how would i go...

If you are on a Mac, this is the easy way to erase it all and be able to put what you want on it after:When your External Hard Drive is connected,
Go to your Applicaiton folder and then Utilities.
Open "Disk utility".
on the right side, you should see your external drive. Click on it.
on the top right of the window, you open the "Erase" tab.
Set the format to Fat32 (to be able to tuse it on a Mac and on a PC)
If you want to change the name of the Disk, just change it or dont touch it.
WARNING: The next step will erase EVERYTHING on the disk. i understand that's what you want to do. Be sure you had selected the RIGHT Disk on the left side.
Click "Erase"
Wait a lil bit...
and. that's it. your Disk is formated and ready to use as new!

My computer says reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key

Hello
This means that your hard drive is not detected by your computer.Unplug your computer then open the cover then check if the connector of the hard disk are properly connected and the power supply on the hard disk are also properly connected. And try to feel if your hard is vibrating when you powered it on. Because if the hard disk does not vibrating it means that your hard disk have no power or not properly connected to the connectors or damage. Sometimes i experienced this problem thats all i done then it works.

When I tried to open a hard disk (e) on my computer to recover my files, I found a alert says you have to be administrator to open the hard disk. neither of the hard disks on my computer is opened to...

Hi,

Sounds like a permissions problem, you need to take ownership of the disk drive to access the information.

Right click the drive letter that you need access to and select propertie, then select the secuirty tab and then advanced. Click on the Owner tab then select your active administrator user on the PC that you are on (you may need to clisk edit also if win 7\Vista), then slect the tick box "replace owener on subcontainer and objects".

This may take some time to propogate depending on the amount of data on the disk. Once doen you will have full permissons to access your data.

Hope this helps.

Won't start up

Wont starup? is a generic question and have a million answers...
but, basic reason wont start can be:
1) Bad hard Drive, or is not setup for 34 bit access on BIOS.
2) Virus
3) do a redect HARD DRIVE on BIOS , and check the belt that connect the hard disk, and cable for power the hard disk.
other than this, reinstall the OS, or change de HARD DRIVE.

Format fat32 in vista for external hard drive

Click on Start > All programs > Accessories > right click on cmd. Select run as Administrator. Open it and connect your external hard disk. Then give the following command: Type format f: /fs:fat32 /q. In this the f is the drive letter of your external hard disk. The windows utility will format the disk and convert it to a FAT32 partition type.
