I have the same problem with mine. The flywheel turns just fine and the water drains. It just buzzes when you hit the switch.

Same problem same model.  Drains just fine.  Blades will move using the supplied wrench at the bottom.  Unit just hums when switched on.  If left on for too long, it will stop humming, and have to be reset with the reset button on the bottom of the unit.

I had the same problem. Buzzing but not working.  I stuck my hand in and realized a spoon was stuck between the wall of the unit and the blades.  Pour a little of oil and was able to jiggle it out.  It's working fine now.

We just ran into the same problem. We fixed it by taking the disposal out and just cleaning all of the debris out of it. It was just stuck because of the fish tank rocks that were stuck between the "blades" and the wall of the disposal so they were just in there preventing the "blades" from spinning.

First have a friend with electrical exp. and a voltage tester to check the voltage to the unit. If its receiving the proper 120 volts on a stand alone 20 amp circuit then my suggestion is that the motor is in short "burned up"and in need of replacement.

It is not cost effective to have this unit rebuilt, unless it is still under warranty.

A new unit is only around $120.00 and your handy man friend should be able to remove and replace this unit.....because hes your friend.

It just buzzes

grinder blade is probably stuck or in a bind. Take a socket wrench with extension and from the top (sink), turn the nut and blade inside the disposal by hand to free it up. Can also unplug it and reach inside to see what may be lodged in the disposal (rag, bone etc).

Badger insinkerator, 1/3 HP does not start. Please help...i try the red button and didn't work...the blades aren't rotating....

Use wood broomstick handle down into disposal.
Wedge broomstick against side of sink opening and rotate blades free.
Or use allen wrench on bottom of disposal to free cutter blade.

If blades rotate freely and disposal has power, and reset is not tripped or will not reset, then disposal is bad.

I have a Badger 5 (5-81A). The motor is humming when it's turned on, however, the blade does not turn. The blade does seem to move freely. Tried reset and hex key but still nothing.

you have something stuck in it more than likely,, use the key ( unplug it first) and turn it backwards,, keep looking inside with a flashlight for the lodged object once you see it,, remove it,, sometimes the key won't work if its something caught in the blades themselves, so use the handle end of a broom or plunger with a wooden handle to push on the blade itself to turn the unit over

There should be a reset button (circuit breaker) on the bottom of the unit. It sounds more like the blades are stuck. Pull the plug on the unit and use an allen wrench on the manual blade turner on the bottom of the unit. If the blades are stuck, you will have to try and loosen them with the allen wrench. If you do get them loose, the question then is what was holding them. Could be debris in the ISE or something broken like a blade. Keep the unit unplugged when working on it.

If the blades move freely with the wrench and stick and motor hums then it sounds like it is time to replace the unit. Have you tried the reset switch? If it is humming than it is probably not tripped but worth a try. Hope this helps.

I have a Badger 5 that will not turn on. The blade freely turns by hand, but unit will only hum like the motor is locked. Suggestions.

Use and allen wrench underneath in the center of the disposal. Does the shaft turn freely? If it does, the capacitor is bad. If the shaft won't turn, there is something stuck inside the disposal.

The blades on my Badger 1 insinkerator don't move. The motor hums when turned on. The reset button stays out when pushed.

You will need to free the blades by inserting the food disposal hex key or a 1/4 Allen Wrench into the very bottom of the disposal in the center. After inserting the wrench you need to turn it all the way in both directions to free what has the blades held up. It may be hard to turn but afterwards pull the debris out from inside the disposal. Hit the reset button and it will work. Do not keep turning it on until you free the blade and then reset.

Garbage disposal won't work!

Check to see if the cutting plate is free and will turn-be careful and be sure no one can turn the unit on while you are trying to turn the cutting plate-it is located in the drain hole that the food goes down. If it is locked up, hardware stores sell a special tool to break it loose. It should not be too expensive. If the blade is free, the motor is probably burned out.
