Halo Special edition xbox console: Error E74 after update

I bought a used Halo Edition xbox360. When I plug it in and try to recover my gamertag profile, it says I have to update. It updates and restarts the xbox console. Then I can play but after a few minutes it becomes fuzzy, then restarts the console. Then I have one red light on the console and E74 on the tv screen.

I returned it and was sent another used Halo Edition xbox 360. The EXACT same thing happened again.
What are the odds? What is going on?

The odds are very good... The error is caused when there's a problem with video, either because the A/V cable used is broken, or what's even worse, when Ana, the Xbox 360 hardware scaler chip is damaged. Also try this take the AV cable, plug it out and plug it in, if it still doesn't work unplug it, wipe the metal part with a soft cloth then plug it in. That might help. But i bet you will end up sending it off again.

Error code E74

Here is what the E74 means courtesy of the xbox scene message board:

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=484726

From my experience it has to do with the two chips on the board overheating. It also explains on the board on what to do.

My xbox will not read discs

Try using a DVD/CD cleaning disk ( Can be bought at walmart/best buy)

If it doesn't even attempt to read/spin, check your power connection. If it is in an extension, try plugging it directly into the wall jack.

If that still doesn't work, you will need to contact microsoft or a xbox repair center, it should be under warranty for certain internal failures.
