Question about E-Machines eMachines Desktop PC

1 Answer

Dead emachine t3104

The problem i have is not from the power supply, i turn the pc on and the fan on the power supply kicks on for a second as well as the cpu fan. After this happens the psu seems as if it freezes and i can not turn it off without unplugging the psu. However i can get the fans on both to turn on only if i unplug the 4-pin 12 volt plug is removed from the motheboard, any help with this would be great.

In most cases this means that your motherboard is fried, but if you can get your hands on another power supply, try plugging it into your board just to be sure.

Substitue different power cables for the hard drive and cd drive. Also check that power cables and data cables are firmly connected at both ends.

Use a DMM and test the power wires for hard drive and CD drive should read around 12VDC ( peak). DMM=Digital Multi Meter... If theres power then check connections remove them then replace them.

T5020 emachine seems to have dead power supply- how can I confirm?

If the PSU fans only work for a short time usually this means that the PSU is shot

If you suspect your power supply has gone bad, there are a few basic things you can do to test it. First, plug the computer in and try to start up the computer. If the computer can start up or shows signs of having power (the hard drives spin up, or the fans turn on) the power supply might be fine, and you may have an issue with your motherboard or RAM. If the computer won't start at all, open the case and then turn the power supply on and attempt to start the computer. Observe the motherboard to see if any lights turn. If no lights turn on and there is no sign that power is being supplied to any of your devices, there's a decent chance that the power supply has burned out. If your computer experiences periodic crashing, feel the case near the power supply to see if it is hotter than normal, and smell the air. If the case is much hotter than normal or you smell burning, your power supply might be overheating, and may be damaged. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/f/powersupplytest.htm hope this helps

Died. nothing comes on, so not dead drive. switched out power supply, so not dead power supply. the switch on the front - blue led only comes on when plugged in lower right two prongs of 8 (4x4). So, tried...

short power switch pins on mother board, reset bios, short green wire to black wire on ATX connector with all drives etc.. power cables disconnected to test power supply. i suspect you have a dead motherboard.

Emachines are bad for having failed power supplies and motherboards. Test your power supply, watch this video.

Emachine 3240 possible power problem?

I would suggest try to swap the power supply out with another known good power supply.

I've seen where even though the light on the motherboard is lit, it is not getting enough power to start the machine up, especially if you have a higher end video card connected to it.

Fast Fans nothing else

If your system won't even beep when powered on, your most likely problem is a bad power supply. You can get a new power supply fairly cheap - a good one is here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153023

If you install a new power supply and the symptoms don't change, your motherboard is probably shot.
