The noise is coming from the compressor and is a result of a broken support spring inside the compressor. When the unit shuts down, the inner casing rattles against the outer casing because the spring is not there to keep them apart. The only fix is to replace the compressor but otherwise it is just bothersome.

I have a Kenmore Coldspot model 106. When the motor kicks on, there is an extremely loud a knocking noise which continues until the motor stops. What is the problem? Can I fix it without buying parts?

the compressor has a spring loaded base that with time wears out and will make a knocking noise when starting or especially when turning off. some Tecs say its not much to worry bout other then the noise not sure where I stand on that issue though.

Refrig making noiise

They are telling it is normal because they dont want to replace it. When in all honesty it isnt. Behind the inside pannel is a protective layer of insulation with a thin layer of metal. The insulation is either not covering the entire plactic sheild. Causeing the metal to contract. It will also make it run more because it warms up faster than needed. Thats where you hear the loud noise comming from. I would demand they take it back to the store and replace it with a new one or call the better buisness beu. Hope this helped.

Kenmore coldspot model 106 9445781 the icemaker motor makes loud noise. Sounds like its under a heavy load.

Suggest you take the ice maker out and defrost it. You propably have ice crystal buildup and causing it to labor harder.

I suspect my Kenmore Coldspot refrigerator is using too much electricity. It was built in 2001. Does that year indicate it might be inefficient?

These are the things that makes a frig inefficient.
Dirty condenser coil
not an energy saver model
temp. in freezer only 20 degrees instead of zero
lost of freon
too much food in the freezer blocking air vents
thermostat set too high
bad doors gaskets
frig. located in area that is extremely hot all the time

these are possiblities so see if you can use this as a guide.. if none fit your problem let us know... thank you

Kenmore coldspot - freezer stays cold, but frig isn't

If this model is a frost free, you probably have a bad defrost system. That would make the unit freeze up and cold air can not get through to cool the unit properly.

I have a Kenmore coldspot side by side- not cooling properly

Setting it to 5 is what the manufacturer recommends. If you set it to 1 and the frig is still not cold, then you probably have a faulty cold control (thermostat)

Kenmore Frig Noise

TD, sounds like your valve springs in the compressor let loose and it's banging on the side when shutting down and equalizing. The compressor has a 5 year warranty. This is more annoying than anything. If it's under warranty, have them replace it. If not, it's up to you whether you want to live with it. Catriver.
