Question about ViewSonic VG2021m LCD Monitor
My power went out for 15 min., came back on. Now Viewsonic vg2021m screen is black after coming on briefly after turned on. Is there a reset or something necessary to get screen to stay on?
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

most probable problem is with the power supply board and inverter, have all electrolytic capacitors checked for leakage and check all solder, specially on the ccfl inverter board.

SOURCE: viewsonic vg2021m base mount
Gently lay the nonitor, face down, on a table such that it will not be damaged while you remove the base. You will find a curved strip of plastic about 1 1/4 inch wide and 4 inches long. Near the center of this strip, you will find two parallel plastic ridges. These are clips that hold the base to the monitor support post. Squeeze these clips together to remove the base from the support post. I was able to squeeze the rear strip toward the rear of the base and ease the rear of the base off that clip and it came apart ok. It is a bit tricky, but doable. Good luck.

Go into the NVidia control panel, create a custom resolution (for the ViewSonic VG2021m, you want 1400x1050, 60Hz), and test it. When the test asks you if it looks ok and you click "yes", it *still* is not activated-- it is simply added as one of the resolutions available for the monitor, and goes back to the same setting you had before... so it looks like it didn't work. But then, if you go under "Change resolution", you'll see your new setting is available there. Choose it, and you are good.
It's working for me, on my T61.

Look at the power supply section for bad caps first, see example of failed VIEWSONIC monitors due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside, it can also be caused by bad inverter circuits or bad lamps.

Testimonial: "Took it in the a computer repair. he seen no bad caps. He thinks it is the inverter or LIPS inverter. Not sure where to get them,"
It is the picture picture board on your monitor that is malfunctioning, since the power led or button is on, but the display screen goes blank after a few seconds, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault.
The best thing for you to do now is to take the monitor to a local repairer within your vicinity or any service center to help with the replacement of the picture board because the fault is not something you can fix yourself, in order not to complicate issues.
