Help re-flashing by BIOS on an iPAQ 111

My \r\n
\r\nThis traditional handheld also has a 3.5-inch, QVGA screen and an SD card slot with support for SDHC.
\r\n
\r\nIt is known by different names depending on where it's sold, but the hardware for all these is the same: iPAQ 110, iPAQ 111, iPAQ 114, etc.", "style=\"background: #FFFFCC;padding: 2px;font-size: 10px;\"", "HP iPAQ 110", "style=\"border-top: 1px solid black;border-bottom: 1px solid black;background: #CCCCCC;padding: 1px;font-size: 10px;font-weight: bold;color: #000000;\"");" onmouseout="GAL_hidepopup();">iPAQ 111
is just hanging when I try to do a CLEAN BOOT. I want to try to re-flash the BIOS (sp38871). Since it won't boot, it will also not connect to my PC to flash the BIOS. HP wants me to return it to re-flash it. I don't want to have to pay $50 + repair costs to have HP do the same thing and have no guarantee that it will even work after that. Can you tell me how to enter the bootloader mode on this model so that I can re-flash it from my SD card? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Nathan

Did you get your Bios flashed? My Ipaq 111 died and I ordered a new motherboard and it has been working ever since. My new motherboard was about $100.00. I got it from China and had it installed. If you are handy, you should be able to do it yourself. I can try look up the company. They should be less expensive now. I searched a while and found the seller. It was much less than a new machine.

Hi,

Did you try to flash the BIOS/firmware of your device?

1.) Go to the Master Index of BIOS, FIRMWARE, & DRIVER Updates,
2.) Select the appropriate hyperlink for your model. (in your case it's here http://mobilitytoday.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4846)
3.) Download the most recent BIOS version SoftPAQ (SP) for your Model of iPAQ.
4.) Press the POWER + iTASK + CONTACTS + RESET buttons at the same time so as to enter the FLASH Mode
5.) Make sure your USB connection to the Cradle is hooked-up.
6.) Place your iPAQ in the USB Cradle.
7.) Stop the MS ActiveSync session on your HOST PC: CTRL-ALT-DELETE > TASK MANAGER > PROCESSES.
8.) Hilight WESCOMM.EXE and select "End Process" button.
9.) Run the file you downloaded from HP in step 3.
10.) The iPAQ should now begin Flashing the iPAQ's ROM BIOS

Ipaq 111 hard reset

Soft reset Perform a soft reset
A soft reset stops all running applications, but does not erase any programs or saved data.

NOTE: Be sure to close all running applications before performing a soft reset.

To perform a soft reset:

1. Locate the recessed Reset button on the HP iPAQ.
2. Use the stylus to lightly press the Reset button.

Hard reset
To perform a hard reset and return the HP iPAQ to factory settings:

Press Win + OK + Record together.
While doing that, press reset button and hold for 3-4 seconds.
Release reset.
Release buttons.

NOTE: Do not release the buttons until CLEAN REBOOT appears on the screen.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

Thanks, Joe

Not a problem it happens just go to hp.com download the bios driver and use it on windows xp it will not work with anyother windows and run it with your ipaq connected to the pc. This will reinstall the complete bios software and bring it back to factory.

When i reinstall the Bios on my Ipaq Hx2410 is fail.

I think you've know already (as an experienced technician) that opening h/w case won't solve anything..
The normal BIOS write is about 20 min (or more), longer than that it could be a problem with ActiveSync or your PC connections.
I'm afraid the ROM chip cannot re-restore because flashing basically format and write your BiosRom chip. Just pray that doing "hard reset" will turn your 'tiny' IpaQ to come alive.

I did not know that I needed to do a soft reboot on the PCC. Once that happened, everything loaded at once. I don't know where it came from, but it all loaded.

HP IPAQ 111 Handheld PDA

If you want to "wipe" the PDA heres how:

-you may need two people to do this,
-hold all three buttons together: START, OK, VOICE
-keep holding these buttons and push reset for 3 seconds
-let go the reset
-then let go the 3 buttons
-the Ipaq will go into CLEAN BOOT mode and start over again

Let me know if these worked.

Ipaq 2490 hangs on booting

Try this:
4. Make clean reset (hold callendar + itask, then press and hold reset), after about two seconds you will hear knack. Now unhold these buttons. The screen will be black.
5. After that make hard reset (hold callendar + messaging + power and then press and hold reset) after about two seconds unhold reset button first and after about one seconds remaining buttons. You will see on screen PS FORMAT.
6. Now is you iPAQ ready.

IPaq 6365 WiFi Wont Shut Off

There's a little utility I use (just because it's quicker than the usual iPaq Wireless screen buttons) called WirelessSwitcher. http://www.aspecto-software.com/WiFiFoFum/Utilities.htm Maybe this would do the trick for you.
