You have to log in to your router's control panel. Here are some instructions taken from another solution. The concept is the same and you can use the exact same steps to change your wireless security password:

In order to secure your connection you need to gain access toyourrouter's control panel. To do this we gotoStart>Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt. From here typein:ipconfig
Press ENTER to execute the command. A list shouldbereturned listing some IP Address. Look for the one associatedwith,"Default Gatewaty."

Here is a picture.

Afterwardopenyour Internet Browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc...) and typetheIP Address associated with the default gateway into the addressfield ofthe browser. DO NOT add www. or .com. Afterward press ENTER orclick GOas if you wanted to visit a website.

Here is a picture.

Onceyou'reat the control panel you will probably be asked to log in. If youdo notknow your login details you can always try the default. To findtheseyou can either search your router's user manual or head to theonlinesearch engines entering your router's manufacturer's name, therouter'smodel #, and the words, "default password" into the same searchrequestto bring up the default login credentials. For example:

Linksys WRT54G default password

Here is a picture.

Ifyoustill can't manage to log in to your router's control panel youwillhave to contact the technical support department of yourrouter'smanufacturer asking them for assistance in resetting the loginuser IDand password of the router.

Once you manage to log in toyour router's control panel. Look for anything hinting Wirelesssecurityor Wireless settings. Once found, look for the region whichcontrolssettings on wireless encryption. You will want to encrypt your wirelessconnection with the WPA-PSK authentication method using the TKIPencryption. If there is no such option, just use WPA encryption.

Afterwarduse a pass-phrase to make a wireless securitypassword, or just makeyour own password. Make sure to write down thepass-phrase and/or thepassword as you will need it to connect to yourwireless connection at alater time (This is your Wireless Encryption Key). After you save your settings inthe router control-panel your Wireless Internet Connection should be secured.

Let me know how everything turns out and if I can assist you further.

How to change your wireless network password. Forgotten wireless password.

Hi. Thanks for looking!

Due to the fact that many questions are being asked about routers and wireless networks I decided to put little tutorial together .

· How to change my routers password (forgotten password)

Since you forgotten your password and can not connect to wireless network you will need an Ethernet network cable in order to connect to router.

Before doing anything else switch your computer on and make sure that your router is on also.

1.
Connect Ethernet cable to your routers free port at the back and the other end to your PC/Laptop network port.
Once you get confirmation that you are connected to the network (you should notice this in the task bar right lower corner of the screen)

2.
Open your internet browser and type 192.168.1.1 in the address box and press enter. If this don'ttake you to the site asking for username and password please do the following.Click Start and choose run (below search) type "cmd" in the box and press enter. This should start a command prompt where you need to type in "ipconfig" and press enter. This should show you information's about your network. Default gateway address will be an address that you need to type in your browser box.

3.
Once you get to the login page, provide your username and password. You should be able to find this in your manual for router but if you can't you can find it hear--->click hear.

4.
Please note that since there's so many router vendors instructions in step 4 may vary, but these are basic.-
When you logged in to your router settings page please find wireless tab and choose security. Get to the password box and change password to whatever you like.

5.
Remember to save changes before quitting. Now unplug your cable and try to connect to your network wireless, using your new password.

Bravo! You just completed password change.

Reset password

Yes. If you change the password of the wireless network then other 2 units will get disconnected from wireless network (if they are connected to the wireless network. If these 2 units are wired to the router then it does not make any change)
I will suggest you to change the wireless network name also if you are changing the wireless network password.
Try to connect to the new wireless network on all the computers and devices.

WRT54G2 wired desktop fine, can't connect to wireless.

Hi Seth6025,

Try without using Wireless Encryption (password).

Try changing channels; default is 6; try 1 or 11.
Change your SSID: personalize it
SSID broadcast: Enable

Check the advanced wireless settings and make sure MAC filtering - DISABLED.

Reset the Linksys router by pressing RESET for 30 seconds should everything fails and re-configure. Firmware is another consideration BUT this is just a new release.

Regards,

Angel

Trying to connect a new Dell E6500

You need to use a computer hardwired to the router to check the wireless settings.

1. Please open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.
2. Connect to the router by typing http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm or http://192.168.1.1 in the address field and click Enter or Return key.
3. A window will prompt for a username and password. The default username is "admin" and the default password is "password".

Note: Username and password are case sensitive. If it does not take password as the password, you might have changed it when you ran the NETGEAR Setup CD so please try other passwords.

4. Click the Wireless Settings under Advanced tab.
5. Check the box under Enable Wireless Router Radio and Enable Wireless SSID Broadcast.
6. Click the Wireless Settings under Setup.
7. Change Channel (recommended are 1, 6 and 11).
8. Change the SSID to uniquely identify your network. You might have a similar SSID with your neighbor.

Note: Do not change the SSID if there are already other wireless computers that can connect to the network.

Other factors that you may consider when you are not able to view any available wireless network:

a. Switch for the wireless adapter is turned off
b. Distance between the wireless router and computer
c. Possible wireless interferences

How do you change the password on the router?

Which one? The login password to the router (admin/password) is changed under MAINTENANCE Set Password.

The Wireless password is changed under SETUP Wireless Settings.
In that one, if you're using WEP, you get to see the 10 or 26 HEX character key. Be sure to read the Wireless help screen on the right side of the page.
