Computer would not booy up. now it does but the password does not work

which operating system ant what type of computer??
Restart your computer

When you boot up to the log in screen type in administrator as user to log in if you cant log in

during the boot up process you will see on the screen for a short amount of time press a certain key to enter set up press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS scroll down to set user password or supervisor password you can change or remove your password from there
also
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS you can load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults ,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart

also
how to reset or clear the BIOS password is to physically remove the power from the computer by disconnecting the power plug and then removing the Cmos battery for 30 minutes from the motherboard. Another way is to reset the clear CMOS jumper on the motherboard itself. Both of the 2 methods mentioned works because most motherboards use a battery to sustain the BIOS/CMOS settings for the motherboards PROM chip. So by cutting off cmos the battery power, the BIOS/CMOS settings will be erased
or if using XP

Hi jeff_lat23,

Welcome to FixYa! How are you doing?

You did not specify what operating system you are using, whether Windows Vista or Windows 7. When did the problem start? Did it happen just recently?

Please try to do the following to resolve the problem:

1. Please try to boot your computer to safe mode. You can boot to safe mode by doing the following:

  • Turn off the computer. Turn on the computer then immediately start tapping the F8 key repeatedly.
Note:
You must press F8 before the Windows logo appears on the screen. If you press F8 after the Windows logo appears, the Advanced Boot Options menu does not appear on the screen. If you do not see the Advanced Boot Options menu, restart the computer, and then repeat this step until you see the menu on the screen.
  • Use the (Down Arrow) arrow key on the keyboard, scroll down to Safe Mode then press Enter.
  • Login to your User Name.

2. Use System Restore to restore the computer's settings to an earlier date:
  • Navigate to the Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools.
  • Click on the System Restore program icon.
  • Click Next > on the Restore system files and settings window.
  • Choose the restore point that you want to use.
Note: Check the Show more restore points checkbox to see more than the most recent restore points.
  • Click Next >.
  • Click Finish on the Confirm your restore point window to begin the System Restore.
Note: Windows will shut down to complete the System Restore.

Hope that helps
. Thank you for using FixYa!

My gateway notebook is locked n I can't remember my user password ..help very frustrated ...I tried ctrl alt del twice to make the admin acct pop up but nothing

Try booting in safe mode.

Restart your computer.

As the computer restarts, begin pressing the F8 key after the Gateway BIOS logo appears until the Windows Advanced Options Menu screen appears.

On the Windows Advanced Options Menu screen, use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode, and then press the ENTER key.

After logging on to Windows XP Safe mode, in the Desktop dialog box, click Yes.

Good luck, post back if this helps.

I HAVE A AVERATEC 3225HS THAT WORKED GREAT TILL I TURNED IT ON YESTERDAY. THE INTRO SCREEN CAME ON AND THEN IT WENT TO A BLUE/BLACK SCREEN LIKE WINDOWS WAS GOING TO START BUT IT NEVER DID. I CHECKED THE...

I had a Toshiba, did almost exactly same thing. What I think is happening is the computer gets stuck in a loop because of a corrupted driver or maybe virus. It works harder and harder, but goes nowhere.. only getting hotter. Since you cannot get to the system, even in safe mode, to fix it, the next easiest thing to do is to reload the OS windows, formating the HD as you go. There are ways to boot from a CD and run AV sofware, but that's usually difficult at best.

You could try booting off the install CD and do a repair. That might get you running long enough to do a virus scan. Mine had the install OS on a partion on the HD, so I ended up wipeing out the C: and reloading from scratch. Took about 3 weeks to bring it up to my version of normal... (Hate that vista)
Good Luck.

I can not log to my account on my laptop and login passward is also correct but it shows only loading on screen

I suspect a problem with windows Hit the F8 key during start up of windows and choose safe mode then log on, also log on to admin acct just in case your acct does not have admin rights to check device drivers and the logs in windows, of interest would be the applications log very useful in
finding problems. if that fails use the recovery console during boot or boot from the recovery CD and choose to fix windows.
