In april, 2009 I purchased a Poulan Riding Mower. Product #960160017, Serial# 112608co14786, Model# PXT l6542. How come there were no ground wheels on the mower housing. The two whole brackets are on the mower housing on each side, but no wheels? Awaiting your return Joe

I would go to Poulanpro.com and look at a breakdown and get your part numbers there. If not give me the model number and I will go to a couple other sites I know and try and help that way.

Recoil spring problem

I have the same chainsaw and have never had a problem with it.

If you have changed the starter rope or recoil spring in the past, it is important that you hold the new spring with needle nose pliers and install it correctly. Once the spring is in make sure wind the rope correctly-clockwise. If not the new spring will be damaged.

16 inch poulan chainsaw got hot and started to smoke and now the recoil no longer works. I took the cover off and there is two springs that seem sprung. should I toss it and forget it or this something I...

how old is the polan 16 inch is it a solid body saw or does it have anti vibration handles, so your hands dont go numb after cutting for 15 minutes.reason i asked is: you can buy a brand new reconditioned homelite with anti vibration handle for 85.00&shiping.
at the very least, your polan needs the recoil starter fixed
and that does not address why the poulan got hot & started to smoke.
For the problems you described , at least $100.00 labor plus parts to fix at a chain saw shop
It might barely be worth it if you were a do it yourselfer and wanted to try to fix it.
if you dont want to be a diy chain saw mechanic, sell your polan for parts for $20.00 on ebay and buy a new homelite
16 inch 38 cc with anti vibration handle ,so you can cut for 6 hours straight, if need be. You get a reconditioned saw that is ready to go and a 90 day warranty. or buy the saw brand new for $110.00 and free shipping@ amazon.com

How do I replace the pull cord to my Poulan 446T PRO. It's a combination of a pole chain saw (8 inch) and a trimmer.

You will take the recoil assembly off the saw. You shoud see where the knot broke off the cord in the pulley. Put the cord through the case and the small hole in the pulley and tie a new knot. Count the number of turns it takes to take up the rope. There should be a small notch in the edge of the pulley you place the rope in to wind up the spring and not take up the rope.Add one or two turns more than you counted so the rope is coiled up snug then pull out the rope from the notch and let the spring retract it.

If looking for parts your OM is of little value. You can find an IPL (exploded parts list) here (only one PP255 listed):
http://www.ordertree.com/modelinfo/PWE/PP255-Gas-Saw/75.PP255-Gas-Saw.1.59.1.html
Rear vibration (isolation spring)s appear to be item 5 or 59 on the "Exterior Assembly" print.

There is contact us number in the OM if you want to contact Poulan. HTH

The pull cord will not retract back into the saw. When I tried to start the saw, I pulled the cord and now it did not retract back. It is all the way out and will not recoil.

When I have had this happen it means that you need to manually rewind the cord and put some additional tension on the take up pulley. To do this you'll have to open the saw up and untie the handle. Turn the pulley like one turn, put the rope back through the hole and tie the handle back on. All this is done while maintaining tension on the rope.

Poulan model p 3314 33cc chainsaw recoil jams up, I have taken it apart, and the pulley seems to be side loaded the screw that holds the pulley is crooked.

I recommend you contact Poulan 1-877-500-7499, there may be a free replacement kit available. If you call please have your saw at your side before dialing.
An IPL for your saw can be found here:
Poulan.com
http://www.ordertree.com/modelinfo/POULAN-WEED-EATER/75.59.html (P3314 Gas Saw)
There are 2 different types "Spring Assist Pulley System" and "Standard Pulley System". Exercise care when you order. HTH

Recoil not recoilling good

hey fark
This is easy. Take off rope housing (four screws). Once off, pull the string out 3/4 of the way. Once out, tie string around spindle one extra time ( real easy just wrap string once more around winding spool ). This oughta make string snap back after pulls.
