There should be an option in the Setup menu for CC (closed captioning) to turn it on and off. If it's already off, you're going to need a new Main board. (You might want to try updating the software first)
Please try to unplug the TV from the wall outlet and then rest it for a while pulg it again and test. if still the issues remain then try to see the all the switch menu infront of the TV maybe lock or got errors.
If Closed Captioning is being displayed even though the CC option in the TV menu is set to Off , then it is being produced by another device, such as a cable or satellite set-top box. To remove the Closed Captioning from the TV screen, it must be disabled on the device that is decoding the Closed Captioned signal.
NOTE: Some set-top boxes may automatically display Closed Captioning on the TV screen when the set-top box sound is muted. If this is the case, turn off the Mute function of the set-top box
If pressing the cc button on the Sharp remote does not turn off the closed captioning then the closed captioning is most likely coming from the cable box or whatever you have connected to this television. You can go into the cable box menu by pressing the menu button on the front when it is turned off. That's right turn off the cable box and then press menu on it to access the hidden menu that includes closed captioning. Scroll down to closed captioning and scroll over to disable. A number of other Directv receivers have the CC located on a "captioning" tab on the "display" page under setup and for dish network: Setting Closed Captioning:
Press and release the MENU button and then select "Preferences."
It has got to be the box. I would try to contact Scientific Atlanta if any way possible. The TV doesn't choose what inputs it shows CC.In other words, it would show it on all Inputs if it was the TV. Good luck and Thanks
