Question about Crosley CR248 Turntable

Crosley CR2406A will not record CDs properly.

My Crosley CR2406A will not record CDs properly. The unit starts to record albums but after a few minutes I get a "Failed" warning on the screen. It is yet to record one CD. I have returned the unit and got a new one, same problem. Any ideas on what is wrong ?

Mine does pretty much same thing. It has gone as far as recording trk 1, or one whole side of a record, but the 2nd side for trk 2 the 'recording/cd' switches to 'phono', quitting recording at some point before the end of the record. Can't ever start it back up on the same cd. Making lots of coasters. Never a complete cd either. Usually quits 7 or 8 seconds in to new trk any new time I hit 'record'. Crosley CR2406A.

I have the same problem after successfully burning 2 CDs, I started getting a "Failed" message and the display switched from showing the track & time to "Phono".

I had this problem when recording CD-Rs. I switched to CD-RWs and didn't have the problem again.

I have a Crosley cr66 Rochester that plays records very quietly even at highest possible volume. Cds and radio can go to full volume so I know its not the speakers. Any idea what the problem could be?

There are 3 possibilities.
1 The Cartridge is faulty.
2 The wrong type of cartridge is fitted.
3 The pre-amp inside your unit has failed. This would not affect any of the other functions if the deck uses a Magnetic Cartridge.

The first is obvious for the solution.
The second is more tricky. For example if a Magnetic cartridge is fitted and the deck hasn't been built for one, the sound would be there but very low, as there is no internal pre-amp fitted. The solution there would be to replace the cartridge with a ceramic type or one that doesn't need a pre-amp.
To the third solution. If the internal pre-amp for the Magnetic cartridge has failed this would need a service engineer to do it, unless you have the knowledge yourself to do the job. It's likely that it will be an IC that does the entire job. It would have to be identified and replaced.
As I say the failure of the IC would not effect any other part of the system, because only the record deck goes into it.

Where is a Crosley repair facility?

If you registered the product with Crosley you can contact them.
Otherwise it seems you have to contact the distributer of the product for the nearest service center.

CD will not finalize

No-way should it take that length of time to finalise anything. My DVD recorder only takes about 3 minutes at the most to do a 4 hour disc! CD are only 80 minutes max. I suspect you have an electrical fault on the unit. I would take it to the nearest Crosley Repair place.

New Records sound is bad

Very strange! Apart from the fact that new albums could be faulty which seems unlikely, the only thing I can suggest is that they could be building up static. So I should look into ways of getting shut of that. If not you could adjust the weight on the arm, to see if that cures the problem.

I have purchased a Crosley cr40 mini turntable which has a american ac adpater. I bought a universal adaptor and my record player started spinning but a small plume of smoke started coming from the plug...

It could be the adapter is just faulty, but you can't tell to you get power to the unit if any part has failed inside (most liklely the transformer if it has).
I found this step-down adapter on amazon which should do the trick, not expensive either.

I can not get my Crosley CR248 Songwriter to Finalize when I try to transfer from cassette to cd. It keeps showing me FAIL....

I don't know this particular machine but here are some general comments.
Most CD recorders need you to press (and sometimes hold) the record button followed by the play button before tehy actually record anything (if you don't press the play button you will still hear sound via headphones etc. but no recording file will be created)
Does it record from vinyl records okay or is it just cassettes?
Are you using the correct sort of CD?
We use a Denon CD recorder and it only works with AUDIO CDs - computer data CDs or CDRWs will not work in it. Even if the Crossley will accept computer CDs it may require a particular format either +ve or -ve (labelled CDR+ or CDR-) to be compatible. Once you have tried finalising a disk and it has failed you cannot use the same disk again.

Tone Arm skips past first song

Hello, A. Do not try to close the case when there is a record inside!! The fact that the turntable cannot do this is not a design flaw--you'll be hard pressed to find a portable turntable that can close with a record inside because if you were to pick up the player with one inside, it could easily slip off of the spindle and scratch against the sides of the player.
B. Are you using the cueing lever to lift the tone arm before you place it on the record? Read the instructions to see where the cuing lever is (it's a little switch on the right side of the tone arm). When you lift it, the tone arm will lift up and allow you to position it wherever you want on a record, then you depress the lever to make the tone arm touch the record and being playing.
I hope that helps!
