Question about Whirlpool GEW9250 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

My Whirlpool Electric Dryer got extremely hot yesterday after a load of clothes. Today, I tested it and when I pressed the START button it "buzzed" (like it was trying to start) and then I smelt a burning smell. It scared me, so I unplugged the dryer. Help?

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

underneath the lint trap is the sensor, it is dirty. You will need to clean it, just be gently as if not you may break it, when you look down the lint trap it has two screws. Here is a web site that will help with the dissemblance of the dryer :

We bought our dryer new 2.5 years ago and up until today it's been working great. ran it yesterday with no problem. put clothes in it today, pressed the start button and it made the buzzing noise as if...

Dryer motors are common for lint build up in the motor at the motor switch. If you get the dryer apart again use a vacuum and small paint brush or compressed air and blow out the motor. Make sure you clean your external vent frequently and do not use flexible vinyl ducting. Also, make sure you check the blower for any obstructions as this will also prevent the motor from starting.

I am having the same problem. Dried towels last night. This morning, I loaded it, turned it on, it did not lock the door or start drying (spinning) but the timer started counting down. I pressed Cancel twice, unplugged it for a few minutes then tried again. Problem still exists. Any suggestions?

Well it sounds like a sound I have heard... forgetting that I had a cigarette lighter in my pocket and having it explode from the heat in the dryer. But you say you heard two loud pops?

Once everything cools down, check again and report back... does the dryer not turn on at all? Does the light come on when you open the door? Does it buzz when you push the start button? Stuff like that.

I'd sure start by making sure the belt isn't broken. You can usually see the belt with a flashlight after accessing the panel (some are in front, others in the rear) - don't go probing around bare armed without unplugging the unit....

Whirlpool dryer model LEQ8800JQ won't start when push start butto

I posted today (Jan 2, 2009) that I had same problem. Handyman tested for blown thermal fuse, etc and everything was fine. He said I have to replace the timer switch .. well guess what - I fidgeted with the start button (on/off) hard a few times while simultaneously pressing & releasing door switch and it did the trick. In my case the problem was most likely with the start button. Dryer is working fine now!

Whirlpool dryer (electric)

did the button click when you pressed it when it worked fine, if it doesn't click now then you need a new button switch, which should be fairly cheap and fairly easy to replace yourself with care if the button should be pressed to start without normally clicking and needs to be pressed to restart each time you open the door then the start relay could be faulty, sound complicated but not the same fault hope i have been of some help, if so please rate me
