Question about Acer AL1916W 19" LCD Monitor

Acer AL1916W has black screen

My monitor has been working fine and i shut my computer down and when it rebooted the power light would come on but the screen is black. I changed both cords out and it still isnt working. If you tilt the screen and put a glare on it then you can see a picture in the background. I took it apart looking for a bulb or fuse and was scared to go to deep. Is there a bulb or fuse that could have went bad? And if so, how do i get to it. lol

I have already taken it apart and didnt see anything broken or anything that looked like it needs replacing. But i also couldnt get all the way in. There was a cover over alot of the parts and I couldnt get it off because the monitor plug is hooked to it. It let me unscrew the power plug but not the monitor plug. This really sux because this monitor is only 1yr. old and has a 3yr. warranty but i bought it new still in unopened box at the pawn shop so i didnt register it :( Guess I learned from that mistake.

The backlight in your monitor isn't coming on, so all you have is that faint image you see.

This trouble is frequently because of capacitors in the monitor which fail. Often these parts (cylinder shaped, usually a couple of inches tall and an inch or so in diameter) have visible problems such as tops that have bulged or split, or brown leakage at the bottom on the circuit board. If you're adventurous, you can take the back off the monitor and check.

If you find any capacitors that look questionable, you can get replacements at Radio Shack or from online parts sellers. Capacitors have markings on them for their value in microfarads (abbreviated as mF or uF), a voltage rating, and a polarity. Some caps have the positive terminal marked and some the negative. Just note which goes where on the circuit board. Get replacements that have the same capacitance value, but a slightly higher voltage rating. They will be a little larger physically but should still fit, and under-rating is what usually causes the failure in the first place. Observe the polarity when installing the new parts.

This all sounds a little scary perhaps, but it's really not a difficult repair. If you're not comfortable with the idea of trying it yourself and you don't know any technically-inclined types who are willing, a TV or stereo service shop could do it. But with labor and their markup on parts, you might spend over half the cost of a new monitor.

either your power supply has gave out on the monitor, or, and this is more likely, a capacitor has burnt out. Capacitors are required for a lcd, plasma, or dlp screen to energize itself. a charge is built up in those capacitors, and a static pulse is sent into the screen grid energizing it. If your monitor is still under warranty, take it to your local Best Buy, as they are a certified Acer Technical service center. If it's not, you can still take it to Best Buy, but it may be cheaper to replace it.

Black screen. Power light is on. Everything is plugged in properly. Rebooted several times. BLACK screen. Not even a flicker of light. HELP!

Have you tried reseating the cables? if not try it first, then if it doesn't work you'll notice that after you unplug the cable that's connecting the lcd from where it's plugged in , (make sure the lcd is on) if you see the colors that means the lcd is working properly if not then there is something wrong with the monitor, but if the colors came up the lcd is working fine,. Try to check where you plug it in.
