Question about Toshiba Graphics Cards

Video Quality Problems

I play an online game called World of Warcraft and I have to lower the video settings to keep the computer from shutting down. I also have a problem with overheating unless I have a chillmat under the computer when running this game. Sometimes the computer will shut down even with the chill mat under the computer.

Hey,

the laptop is overheating and shuts down to prevent hardware failure. Use canned air to blow dust out from the fans that may improve it a little.

Ill be playing a video online off youtube or playing a massive online game like World of warcraft and mid game or halfway through the program or video will freeze and the sound stalls like a motor...

The two main causes of this kind of malfunction are:

1. Network latency or disruption. The videos will stop and restart later, possibly in a "fit and start" pattern.

If this were the case, though, you should also experience troubles with ordinary navigation, Skype calls and so on, and you say nothing of this. So I'm afraid it's case

2. Hardware problem of the video card. The fact that it happens when the card is working heavily, strongly indicates that it is a cooling problem (you may notice the problem happening more often when it's warm, and disappearing with strong air conditioning, for example). With newer and hotter cards, requiring active cooling, it may be caused by a fan which is either disconnected, burned, or jammed by some wire or connector. Open the case and inspect the graphic card: if it has a fan installed, and YouTube is running, verify it is blowing air. If it is not moving, try nudging it very gently with a finger (quickly removing the finger from the fan blades). Loose cables jamming the fans are easily fixed by taping cables somewhere safe. Broken fans require replacement.
Another possibility, which needs experienced help, is a faulty or dried-and-flaked-off thermal coupling between graphic card GPU and heat sink (if there is one). Just unassembling the sink, cleaning GPU and sink, and properly applying a new layer of thermal coupling grease solves this kind of problems.

Have a GeForce 6600 Graphics card in my computer but when i play games, the computer crashes. Anything i can do to stop this from happening? The only game I am playing is World of warcraft and that is...

You should always update the graphics card driver first.

If that doesn't help, does it crash to the desktop, or does it crash and shuts your computer down?

If it crashes to the desktop, then your system might not meet the system requirements of the game.
If it shuts your computer down, then you might not have enough power, some hardwares are not compatible, or that the speed of some components are too high and unstable (unstable overclocking).

However, it's just possible that the game isn't working the way it should and just needs a reinstallation.

Rainbow Colors in some games

You can try running the game, hitting alt+tab to get back to your desktop. Right click on your desktop and hit properties. In the display properties window hit the settings tab and move color quality to 32 bit. If this doesnt fix it then your Graphics card isnt powerfull enough. PS In windows XP you need to make sure that you have another program running besides your game so that you can alt tab.

Video Card PNY VERTO GEFORCE 8400 GS stop working

adcg,
the world of war craft is played online through servers, not just on your computer. the version is needed to see if there are issues with your video card, Do you have XP home or XP pro?
you have more than 1 mb of ram
at this point I am going to say that you have issues with the video card take it back and get an ATI to replace it, they are better and have less issues.
you could also be having an overheat problem with the CPU and that means you need a new heat sink and fan assembly to keep the CPU cooler when you are running this game.
That is about all the help I can give you , my advice is to take the computer to a service center and have them look at the CPU heat sink and fan assembly to see if it is working properly.
hope this helps

What kind of games does my vga support?

ok, you can play any game that dosen't exceed your processor speed and memory capability. I recommend upgrading your ram to 2 gigs. this will insure optimal performance. remember, look on the bottom of every PC game you plan to buy and check the minimum requirement on the bottom or back side of the game box. as long as the requirements don't exceed your processor speed and memory, you are good to go. You can PLay WoW on this unit at this point but, be sure to keep the detail level at the medium setting until you get more memory.

Please rate and have a great day:)
