As far as I am aware you need to get 2 ohm speakers. I run a 4 ohm subwear as the Alpine Type R sub is 2 ohms. I'm not 100% on this though but you may get around it by bridging your speakers by connecting both speakers to the amp as normal but swapping the speakers negatives around! That may cause the amp to run as if only at 2 ohms. Hope this helped!

I have 2 JL Audio 8W0's rated at 75 RMS. I had a MTX 280 Amp pushing them but need to replace it, what brand and size amp do you recommend for these speakers.

  • This Kicker Amp will compliment them JL Audios like nothing else. KICKER ZX Series ZX350.4 4 channels all rated @ 75 watts RMS. If it was me that would be my choice for a replacement amp.

I was thinkin bout buyin a planet audio ac2600.2 car amplifier but cant find what gauge power an ground wire it takes and how many watts it puts out 2 channel @2ohms rms. can you help?

Here are your specs. RMS 900 Watts Nominal and Max 1300 on 2 Channel @ 2 Ohms.
4 Gauge should do fine but if you like to feed the beast go with 2 gauge.
Looks like going rate is $110 on Amazon or elsewhere.
If it attains the RMS wattage it would be a good amp. I like monoblocks but
you will pay more. I looked into Tri-Mode and it is straight forward but people
are having problems figuring it out. With your 2 speaker operation you should
avoid the issues others are having.
Good luck and remember, rearview mirrors were meant to fall off!
Mine: JL 1800A monoblock into 2-JL 12" W3's in series for low bass 20-80 Hz; Lanzar Vibe 266 bridged into 2-12" Memphis in series for mid bass 40-200m Hz. 2 guage wire to mononblock-250 amp fused at battery, 4 guage to Vibe w/250 amp at battery.

    I want a reliable system.

if you bought that equipment today then your answer is yes your amp will power the subs but if i was you and you want more bass I would go with a two channel amp or even a mono block amp that will be 1 ohm stable and if you decide to do that you might want to get subs that are dual 4 ohm voice coils and run them in series that will get you 1 ohm of resistance

Whats the best way to hook up a 12 inch dual voice coil insignia subwoofer spkr to a 4 channel 650 rev boss amp

Well without seeing a spec sheet on the amp and not knowing your voice coil impedance I will assume the following. If the speaker is dual 4 ohm voice coil the in parallel it would present a 2 ohm impedance to the amp. If this amp is stable down to 2 ohms bridged then that would be the hookup of choice. If it is not stable to two ohms with one speaker it will be tough to get full performance out of your amp. You would have to series the voice coils which would then present an 8 ohm impedance to the amp. Just look at your amp's manual before making the decision. My suggestion would be to get another one of those subwoofers parallel the voice coils on each then wire the two subwoofers in series. This would give you a 4 ohm load which your amp is almost certain to be able to drive.

SHOULD I GO AHEAD AND BUY A 400 WATT AMP?

All amps aren't created equal. More exspense amps put out "cleaner" power. You need to know what the RMS power rating is for the amp at 8 ohms and 4 ohms. Also, is the speaker an 8 or 4 ohm speaker? How you wire a speaker or speakers (series or paralell) can change the ohms (resistence) which will change the power put out of the amp. Also, I'm assuming you are setting it up in mono?
