Kenmore series 70 will not fill

My kenmore series 70 washing machine will not fill... the water is running straight through the machine to the drain...

My Kenmore 70 series washer will not fill. I saw somewhere that it is either the lack of an air gap or that the drain pipe is not elevated high enough. There is definitely an air gap and I did straighten out the drain hose and elevate it and it helped temporarily, but is still not completely fixed. I need help!

Ive only run across this a couple of times in my years of appliance repair. This sounds like you do not have an air gap on the drain hose. Where the hose hangs into the wall drain pipe make sure you do not have that sealed air tight with duct tape around it or something. It needs to have a gap all the way around the hose and just hang freely. If it is sealed off then it creates a siphon effect and sucks the water right out of the washer tub into the drain.. Hope this helps.. Thanks

The wash machine will fill but wont stop filling

If it stops filling when you turn it off, the water level switch is malfunctioning. If the water runs in regardless, the water inlet valve needs replaced.

Kenmore series 70 washer will only fill with water.

I recently had this problem. It was found that the main drive belt broke and the washer would fill but not spin, agitate or drain. I replaced the belt and everything worked again. A defective or disconnected cover switch would also cause the same problem.

Kenmore 70 Series washing Machine won't stop filling with water

filling and never stops and never agitates? then check level switch and hose, any hole in the clear hose to the level sw can cause this. if airtight then replace level sw.

70 series wont fill w/water

CHECK SCREENS IN WATER VALVES FIRST. CHANGE TEMPERATURE SELECTOR TO COLD ONLY, SEE IF IT WILL FILL. IF IT DOES FILL AND SCREENS ARE CLEAN YOU MOST LIKELY NEED A WATER SELONOID.

The most likely cause for water fill temperature problems is the solenoid has burned out, usually cold first, it gets used more. Not a repairable item , easy to replace

You most likely have a broken coupler between the motor and gearcase.
You can buy the part for about $10 or have someone come out and replace it for about $150-200.
If you will post the complete model number from the the washer so I can see which style cabinet you have, I will try to walk you through the repair. It isn't very complicated if you are handy with home repairs.
With the age of the machine it probably just needs a coupler, but it could also have a problem in the transmission or basket drive that has caused the failure.
