I think the fan is making a super loud grinding noise.

Hey there, I think the fan is making a super loud grinding noise. I was wondering if I could remove the fan (I know how) and use my laptop without the fan inside. Other than potential overheating, what else could go wrong if I ran my laptop without the fan?

I would not recommend this. You could fry your cpu and then you would have no notebook. If you are going to open the notebook make sure there is nothing interfering with the fan. The fan can be replace. Take the fan out and try to replace it, if needed. Do not run the notebook without a fan.

I get a loud grinding noise from my ice maker. What can make that noise?

Hi,

Thank you for your information you provided, could the noise be described as a clicking or ticking noise? The reason I ask is I have heard for this to be a motor driven harvest and the heating within the ice maker is not engaging to release the ice, so the unit continues to push the ice out causing the gear to jump a tooth. If this is the case the only fix is replacing the ice maker to fix the issue. Other possible cause of grinding is the water in not entering the ice maker (hollow ice cubes) so the water is accumulating around the fan motor and freezing up. As the fan turns on the grinding is the fan motor cutting away at the ice. Gain access to the fan motor and check for ice around the fan, if its there remove that ice. The cause is that the water is not getting into the ice maker and causing this issue. Good Luck, I hope this helps.

check for broken suspension components. Shouldn't be hard to find the culprit, if it is grinding it is making metal shavings and should be able to look for shiney metal parts.

Random Short Grinding/Buzzing Noise from my Notebook gets amplified through PA system!!! Don't know where it is coming from or when it will happen next!!!

try and blow out the laptop with compressed air as it could be your fan making noise, make sure to leave the laptop on a flat surface, and don't press too ******* the palm rest. i say this because i have a dell 1545 and the hard drive is located on the left side under the palm rest and if i apply too much pressure i hear a slight grinding noise. let me know if this helps and please tell me if you're near the machine when it does this grinding sound.

GBC Shredmaster 3220S stopped taking paper in and makes a loud,

Myi shredder does the same thing so I removed the screws to see what was going on inside.

What happened is the fan tail that spins when the shredder is in operation and cools the motor had broken off. I got some gorilla glue, adhered the fan back on, then let it dry for 24 hours. Replaced the screws, turned on the shredder on it worked just fine. The loud grinding noise stopped and the shredder worked wonderfully. I am looking for a replacement part because I don't trust whether the glue maintains its hold when the motor heats up after excessive use . Darlene

A loud grinding noise comes from the fan area

Check if there are dust debris on the fan, it could create a grinding noise, but if the fan is clean, there could be a mechanical problem with it. Hope this helps

Lexmark C510 is making grinding noises while printing large jobs

I found another posting stating that the culprit was the black toner cartridge. Sure enough I changed our black cartridge and the grinding noise has stopped. No wonder the grinding noise was not happening all the time only when the black cartridge got low. Thanks for the help!

HP Dv8233cl fan grinding

You only need to replace the fan, not the heatsink assembly.
Your computer repairer can do it or you can do it yourself once you identify the size of the fan and buy a matching one. You may have to solder a new connector on the lead.

LG refrigerator makes loud noise and then stops running.

You are seriously frozen up. Defrost the unit completely. Then, be aware that 'window shopping', leaving uncovered liquids in the box and poor door sealing (too heavy a load on the door ... too much on shelves) can cause condensation. Defrost with hot air or leave unplugged and open for about 2 days. You'll see alot of water come out.
