Try turning off the oven for about a minute and see if it resets itself. Next try to insert a thin piece of strong metal like a spatula into the latch and work it around until you can release the door from the latch. Let me know how you do.

I just bought a new home and find the oven door will not close properly. It stays open about an inch with lots of heat escaping. Any ideas?

Most oven doors are equipped with spring closures as part of the hinge assembly, and are designed with a "detent" feature so that the door can be removed for cleaning without requiring tools. Usually, with the door wide open, you lift the hinged edge of the door straight up, and wiggle it straight out at the same time. When you reinstall the door, it is important that both hinges "seat" equally, and that one or the other hasn't tripped out of the detent positiion. You may have to experiment wit it several times, and a second pair of hands may be helpful. You may also find that maybe a freind will know the trick, my wife can pop the door out and back in in a flash! Goodluck Rob.

GE Oven door lock 'engaged' while door was open and door will not close - how do I release the lock?

If your oven door has gotten bent or warped (maybe you rested something heavy on it...), you need to remove the door, disassemble it, and straighten it. You can lift most oven doors off of their hinges by opening the door several inches to its first "stop," and lifting the entire door straight up. If the hinges have become worn, damaged, or bent, you probably need to replace them. We recommend replacing both hinges at the same time, to prevent uneven wear of the undamaged hinge.

The bottom oven door does not completely shutThere is a gap from which heat escapes. The door shuts but then drops open a very little way when pressure is relinquished

When the door is open, you will see some small cross head screws near where the hinges go into the door. These should be tight. If they are, then it could be the hinge failing. Try espares for a new set of hinges, but be warned you will have to take the entire oven out of its housing and both side panels off to get the the hinges.

How do I remove the oven door

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

Most if not all Thermador owners manuals have this outlined in them, however, here you go.

Removing the Oven Door

  • Fully open the oven door.
  • Raise the U-clip over the hook on each of the hinges to the "locked" position (see illustration below). This will prevent the hinge from snapping closed when the door is removed.
  • Grasp the door by the sides toward the back. Raise the front of the door several inches (there will be some spring resistance to overcome because of the hinge being locked). When the front of the door is high enough, you will be able to lift the hinges to clear the indents.
  • Pull the hinges out of the slots in the oven front frame.

To Replace the Oven Door

  • Grasp the sides of the door at the center and insert the ends of the hinges into the slots in the oven front frame as far as they will go (see illustration below).
  • With the door open all the way, lower the two locking clips.
  • Raise the oven door and make sure that it fits evenly with the front sides.

DOOR HINGE WARNING:

**CAUTION** With the door off, never release the levers and try to close the hinges. Without the weight of the door, the powerful springs will snap the hinges closed with great force.

Let me know how you make out or if anything is unclear. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Good Luck,

Macmarkus :)

Oven door not closing properly

If it is a drop down door with hinges on the bootom of the oven door, then it is likely to be weak door hinge springs, the usual solution is to replace both hinges.
If it is a swing open door, then the problem is related to a worn or broken door catch, or worn striker pin.

Oven door not sealing properly and heat escaping

Check the hinges at the bottom corners to see if the spring is still connected and see if the hinge is wore out. The door lifts off the hinge when it's in the partially open position after loosening the screw holding the door in position on the hinge. Slide the oven out a little to access the hinge to replace or inspect.

Oven door fails to close properly. Heat escapes when cooking. Seals appear to be ok. Please assist if free, as offered.

Probably mal-adjusted hinges. Open the door fully and there USUALLY are small holes in the hinges to insert a nail into to hold the hinges open while working on the door.

Replaced hinge on smeg double oven but now oven doesn't heat

I have the SMEG F170-5 and had this problem after cleaning and replacing the door. It wouldn't heat unless I banged it shut. This action made the internal switch trigger, so I had to remove the oven (4 screws, slide out) and remove the right side panel (4 screws). The switch is actuated by the right hinge strut and it must have become bent slightly. I bent it a bit towards the door so that it would just a little bit more likely to make the switch trigger with the door closed and it now works fine.

Oven door of Zanussi260X

If it is the same as the Zanussi ZBF 660 X then to remove or re-attache the door:

Not sure if you still need to get your oven door off still but I have the same oven and have spent the last several hours trying to remove it and searching the web to discover how to remove it until I have just discovered a wonderful video tutorial on YouTube www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSzc4Uqbbr8
that discribes exactly how to do it (just copy and paste it into your address bar.
It is the fourth and final instruction in the video but it really is easy.
The hinge is a latching over system type that folds back into the glass apparently.
Just get a screwdriver and where the end of the hinge dissappears into the housing of the oven just flick up the hinge with the screwdriver and the locking mechanism folds back towards you and the glass.
Once both are done just jiggle and pull up the door and it will remove easily....godsend!
