Question about IBM ThinkPad R50e Notebook

1 Answer

Slow performance I have tried all I know to speed up this r50 thinkpad to little effect. The usual system tools and decluttering are current but windows open slowly, if at all. Frequent stalls, and lock ups. I am running Norton 360 and all my updates to XP are installed. I am trying to minimize things running in the background but am unsure how to do this and proceeding with caution. I only want to run Internet Explorer and the MS Office pak at this station so am willing to reformat and start over if that is easiest. What do you recommend?

Hey,

The reformat should help you, but there maybe a problem with the hard drive and its causing the lock ups.

and looking at the spesifications of this laptop, I would recommend to upgrade the ram.

you can download process explorer and see what is eating the resources

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,
Ekse

My laptop is very slow

Hello there,
When a laptop tends to be performing very slow. There are different factors that could be contributing to the problem. It acting sluggishly tends to be quite annoying, frustrating, time consuming and not encouraging to use.
The cause could be from the RAM size, the RAM is what determines the speed of the laptop, if it is large, it will perform faster but if it is low, it will perform very slowly. RAM can be upgraded, and that involves you turning the laptop to the back and unscrewing it open, you will see a processor connected to the mother board, that is the RAM, check the size and try to replace it with a larger RAM.
Also, if there is a virus on the system, it can contribute to making the IBM perform slowly. Try to install AVG anti-virus free edition 2011 on the system. That will help you eraze the corrupted file and protectyour laptopfrom being exposed to any virus of any kind.
Ensure you are not running on windows vista or windows 7, try to ensure you are running on windows XP, as the IBMs mother board will act sluggishly if windows vista or windows 7 is the current operating system.
Be sure not to have too many load on the hard disc also. Try to ensure you are using an external hard disc for the laptop to save large files. As saving too many applications and folders on the hrd disc can make the laptop act very slow.
Would be glad to know if this information washelpful to you. All the best. Elect_Comp

Very slow speed on my 9301 laptop

You can speed up your 93011 laptop by:

-- cleaning system junk
-- optimizing computer services
-- optimizing internet
-- repairing registry
-- defraging registry
-- clearing browsers junk

do these things with some secure tool such as Intel Software Partner Reginout.

I have a IBM thinkpad t30 the on/off button every time I try to turn the laptop on it takes a long time for the computer to come on. Whats wrong ?

This is in laptop terms an older laptop. i recall it was fitted with a 20 or 40GB hard drive and with 256mb of ram and unless you have since upgraded it, it is possible the hard drive is filling up or it is beginning to fail through age.

Things you can try:
  • See how much space is availible on the hard drive, to work effectively there should be at least 2 gb of space that windows can use as a swap file
  • In My computer / C drive/ properties/ tools, defragment the hard drive and then run a disc cleanup, see how much space is fred and if it runs faster after the hard drive has been decluttered and defragmented.
  • If you still have problems / the hard drive is filling up, move some files to a seperate location such as an external drive to free up space.
  • If after this, you still get a slow start up, download a copy of HDD Tune (the free version) and do a health check on your hard drive, any bad secorrs or RSC errors means you should consider replacing the drive asap.
  • Finally, consider upgrading the RAM

I'll start my IBM R50 everything will load click on anything it freezes up can't do anything what could this be and best solution to fix this. When a program opens it runs extremely slow.

You probably have had virus activity for some time, and it has done alot of damage to your Operating System. I recommend that you perform a System Recovery which will return the system to Factory Condition.

Can you help me to speed my internet access and my laptop is 2 days old i cant open my skype my laptop is hp compaq 610

Internet speed is dependent on the provider. If you have DSL and there are several people or computers using the Internet, it will be slow.
Your HP610 has enough processing power and LAN speed to get online fast.
If you have had this laptop two days, was it always slow? Or did it become slow?
If it became slow, go to Malwarebytes.org and scan your laptop for malware. If you do not have a malware prevention program on the laptop, it will get trojans which will slow it down to a crawl.
You can see the various products to prevent this here.

When stat thinkpad R50 beeps 2x and nothing

Two short beeps and no further activity mean you could have a motherboard problem or a memory (RAM) problem.
Reseat the RAM modules and reboot the laptop, if the laptop still doesn't work, remove the RAM module/s and insert them into a working laptop to test them, or take them to you friendly computer shop to have them tested.
If the RAM is OK then the fault is the motherboard. Replacing the motherboard may not be a cost effective solution.

IBM Thinkpad Notebook

I know of a lot that DON'T work, and I would never pay anything for any of them anyway.

One that does remove spyware, junk and other such and is completely free is Spybot - Search and Destroy but that only cleans up spyware, adware, malware and rootkits. It won't 'declutter' windows's normal functions. Still worth a try, though, because spyware and adware can eat up huge amounts of memory. You can download it here.
