Have you checked the device manager to ensure the sound card is enabled? Have you checked to see that you have the proper sound selected in the sound control panel? Have you checked to see if perhaps something is muted?

All things we need you to check.

justin lee,
Unfortunately, that will not work. You will need to purchase a product key number from Microsoft. You can also try searching the internet and purchase a license copy of Windows with a product key code.

You will need to locate the mother board drivers and install them you should have a motherboard CD if you purchased the computer from new.if not you will need to find the make and model of your laptop or desk top motherboard and then go to the manufactures web site and down load the relevant drivers

I have a Dell Windows XP and I haven't had sound for about 2 weeks now because of my conexant audio or smartaudio stopped working. I have tried everything, I have looked and tried to fix it but nothing...

For the Dell Vostro A840, this is the correct driver download page for Windows Vista 32-bit:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=ca&cs=cadhs1&l=en&s=dhs&ServiceTag=&SystemID=VOS_N_A840&os=WLH&osl=en&catid=&impid=
Select the 'Audio' driver and click 'Download'.

There is not an option for Windows XP. Is this the correct laptop model?

I have a dell 2350 with windows xp professional 1-2cpu what new do i by to re load it the same . peter PS have lost the lot so have to by a new windows

According to the question above you are looking to reinstall Windows XP. You would need to gain a copy of Windows XP from a local electronics store. If you have a repair CD for the Dell 2350 then you would be able to insert this, then restart your computer. Once your PC restarts it will provide you options to restore your PC. I have istalled window XP and i had window vista...but after installation of new one my laptop inspiron 1525 sound system is not working..m trying to install sound driver but thats not properly...

You are download grading your Operating System to XP from Vista. Drivers for Vista and XP are diferent.

You can download the Audio drivers for XP from Dell Support Site for your laptop.
Check your "Device Manager" and uninstall the previous drivers and reinstall the XP Audio drivers downloaded from Dell Site.

Hope it helps.

No sound

Does your computer came with a driver/utilities disk? The audio driver should be there. If not, try the Dell website support page o download the appropriate drivers for the laptop.

No sound since installing xp

Unfortunately your best bet on your Inspriron 531s is to go back to Vista. According to Dell, this system was specifically setup to run Vista and, therefore, no XP drivers are guaranteed to work on this model. Most of the time for onboard devices, if they are not listed on the site, they are usually native to the operating system and do not require a driver download. Dell does, however, have some XP drivers for this model listed on their support site here

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WW1&osl=EN&catid=-1&impid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=INSP_DSKTP_D531S&hidos=WW1&hidlang=en

The only audio driver listed is for a Creative Labs X-Fi sound card and I am not sure that is what you have. Your best bet is to uninstall your sound card drivers, reboot, then install these. Good Luck
