Question about Viking 31 in. VECU105 Electric Cooktop

1 Answer

My Viking VECU105 electric cooktop has one burner which will not regulate the temperature. It can be turned on and off with the control knob, but after that, there is no temperature control. Any ideas on what the problem is and how hard it is to fix? That is, does the cooktop need to be removed from counter or what?

It will need either a dual infinite or infinite switch, If the burner has an inner an outer element then it requires the dual.

Firstly turn power off at breaker.

The unit needs to be removed from the cut out and the cover removed from below the swtichs. the knob taken off and the secureing screws removed, then take note of the layout of the wiring and the poistion of the switch, then swap the wires, reassemble test and then re-install

Viking gas cooktop vgsu161-6b sparks continuously. There is no gas leaking. I spilled water on the controls and it is only when I turn on the 3rd knob from the top that this happens.

The water that you spilled onto the cooktop has shorted out the ignition switch in the gas control knob. Don't worry though no permanent damage has been done. Leave it unplugged from the electrical outlet for a day or two until the liquid dries out. You can manually light the burners with matches or a BBQ lighter in the meantime. If you want to try and speed up the drying process you can use a hair dryer.

When i use one burner the other one makes the electrical pop

That allows you to light that burenr turn the knob to mid range for the gas on both or full on and it should stop. there is one igniter and 4 burners. Each burer controls the igniter when oven calls for gas.

Viking 30" gas professional series cooktop sparking problem

And before that Most likely one of the ignition switches (they are under knobs) got shorted possibly due to spilled liquid or a cleaning stuff sprayed on. In that case it should stop sparking after a switch drys. Still no go replace the spark control unit.
