First of all is this shredder sold at OfficeMax?
This is the second one of this model we have had....first one quit after the first shred....now this one has stopped.....plugs up with just computer paper....
Shredcare is the worst company ever. they sell crappy merchandise and then when it breaks, they dont sell replacement parts. My machine was out of warranty and the motor spindle sheered the teeth from the 1st cog wheel. this is probably an $0.11 part, but shredcare says my only option is to just buy a whole new unit and send this one off to the land fill, even though its so easily repaired.
i will never do business with shredcare again, and recommend everyone else stay away from them as well.
Yo Cyrus, If you think you can fix your shredder? Try one of these sites the claim to have your part?
AS for myself ShedCare (INTEK America Incorp.) They stood by their warranty. Also if you do alot of shredding to where your shredder overheats you need to spend more money on your next shredder. Reason being there is an overheating raing on shredders? From being on 10 min. shredding consecutively on up.
And the longer your shredder is on consecutivly and doesn't overheat on you, the more money you pay. trust me on that one.
Good luk what ever you do Happy New Year!

Many shredders will jam up with pieces of the shredded bits sticking inside. If it gets near the trigger mechanism that is pushed inside so that it can be pushed, it STOPS! Unplug it, use tweezers and gently but consistently try to pull out all the remnants. If you get it all out, and it can take a while, it should start up again. In the future oil the machine with the special oil they make for shredders sold where you bought the shredder... and only shred a few pieces at a time. Go backwards only to UNJAM. If it is jamming you have to fat a load of paper going through.....GOOD LUCK!
I had this same problem. This is what I did to fix it.
When I went to ShredCare.com (the recommended web site for technical support of this particular shredder), I read that 'Most models of shredders have a safety interlock switch that is activated by the basket.' Upon looking closely at my basket and the shredder, I found this safetly interlock switch and made sure to align it with the proper position within the basket. There is only ONE way to place the shredder on the basket and have this safety interlock switch activated. The switch is located on the underside of the shredder. Align this switch with the ridge on the inside of the basket. Listen carefully and you will hear the switch 'click' when in the right position. Mine is very touchy. I've even had to press in on the side of the basket while shredding to make sure that the ridge and the switch are making contact.
