My dishes are coming out with a thick cloudy film

My problem is that my dishes are coming out with a thick cloudy film after the cycle is finished. I have tried different dish detergents, rinse agents, and dishwasher cleaning products. I even tried the rumored "Tang" powdered drink solution. My dishwasher is clean, but my dishes are not! HELP!

Most dishwasher detergents now have some sort of rinse agent already in them. If this is the case don't add it to your dispenser once it runs out. Too much rinse agent can cause clouding.

My GE profile dishwasher is leaving soap residue on the dishes after a wash cycle. Cloudy and a sort of fim on the dishes. Seems to be getting worse. I use the same dish detergent-Cascade and regulary use...

The problem is most likely that there is still water residue at the bottom of your machine. If the machine is not fully drained it picks up some of the residue and sprays that onto the dishes during the final rinse, leaving an unhealthy and unsightly film on everything.
Remove the bottom strainers and make sure that there is nothing obstructing the outlet pipe and the pump. If possible back flush through the outlet pipe and try draining the machine again before using it again.

Dishwasher seems to run for a very long time on normal cycle. It leaves a whitish residue on dishes and the glasses appear cloudy. I do use a rinse agent.

Some dishes and silverware ends up with a cloudy film on it.

Usually this is a contanimation issue, check and clean all drain filters, look for particulate matter in the spray ports, Usually you have to take the whole thing apart and clean debris.

Dishwasher leaving a white film on dishes after wash/dry cycle

Well, that usually happens if the water in the area has too much alkali metals, such as calcium and magnesium.
Try putting some salt together with the detergent before you start the cycle.
And if it still does, try washing the finished dishes again with clean water, i mean, without detergent...

Soap film on dishes

Rodney B if you are sure that the white film is detergent and not hard water deposits, then look at how you are using the detergent. When you watch the TV ads for dw detergents, they are showing baked on/extemely dirty dishes being put in the dishwasher and coming out clean. Well they do this as the dw detergent is designed to break down protein based food products. Fats, oils, and such. If you are prewashing your dishes before putting them in the dishwasher, then there is nothing for the detergent to attack and attach to, so it ends up staying in the dishwasher. If you are going to rinse your dishes, then you need only 1 tablespoon of detergent. Dishwashers are designed to clean using 4 parameters, hot water of 130 degrees, water, detergent,& pressure of the water jets. That is how they clean dishes. Now if this is hard water deposits, switching to an enviromently friendly detergent which is high is Citric Acid (What gives Tang drink its tartness) this will reduce this issue. Hope this helps

Not draining properly, leaving film, debris, & soap, draining through air gap

you wont get clean results if loading a dishwasher up with dirty plates, the food debris will circulate around with the water and keep reistating itself on the plates- as it may not get through the filters. try a powder wash with rinse aid topped up and the most important thing is that the salt bottle is topped up. you may also want to check that the spray arms are not all blocked up with debris.
