Please see the following blog article, as it describes the use of a card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue:

I have lost my CD on how to download the software for my powershot A30 and want to now download picture to my laptop, where can I get a CD or other source so I can.

Using a USB lead, you shouldn't need a driver or other software. The computer can recognise the camera memory as a removable drive without actually recognising the camera as a camera. Try looking in "My Computer" for an extra drive (Under "Devices with Removable Storage") and opening that. There should be directories with picture files in them that you can drag to your desktop.

Many people find it more convenient to just take the memory card out of the computer and put it in a card reader, especially now that these readers are built into computers and printers. You can't get the pics from the camera's internal memory that way though.

Software, driver, and manuals can be downloaded from this page.

Is the RAM the same on both computers? Sounds like one has less RAM and therefore not enough processing power to run the video smoothly.

How can i install a30 to my computer

If your camera is not relatively new and you're running Vista or later, your computer will likely have problems seeing the camera. Unfortunately, this can't be corrected because the drivers for your camera were not updated by Canon for these newer OS's. But there exists a good, if not better alternative way to download your photos. Please don't take the following as a sales pitch as it's not, but please see this link, as it describes the use of an inexpensive card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. Lost my driver software CD for my Powershot A30 so now, how can i transfer photos from memory card to computer?

A lot of people assume that they must use the cable and sofware that came with the camera in order to download their photos. The problem is that the cable/camera way can be very problematic.

In your case, it would be difficult finding another solution disk for your camera. But that's OK, and for those of you that navigated here looking for a solution to that lost cable, lost software disc, or computer that just fails to recognize your camera, please see this link. It will make your life much easier/happier.

Digital camera not recognised by windows vista

It may be that the drivers for the Camera are not compatible with Vista. Did you update the Vista drivers.

Can you not detect via USB cable?

Camera won't work with vista

There are no drivers available to make the Canon PowerShot A30 work with Windows Vista. Your best bet is to get a CF card reader ($15 or less) with a USB connector and put your card from the camera into it. Windows Vista will recognize the card reader and the photos without any drivers.

My XT will not connect to Vista.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Windows Photo Gallery or Picasa.
