Question about Simrad Ac10 Course Computer
I am having problems with my simrad ap16 autopilot system. when i put the control unit on auto all is ok, but if the boat deviates from its course or i adjust the course and the system automatically tries to compensate with a rudder change, the control unit alarm sounds and the screen reads 'ACXX CURRENT OVERLOAD.' here is what i have done thus far -checked ALL connections in the system (drive unit, rudder feedback, control unit, and computer) which are fine. removed the drive unit (simrad rpu80 reversible pump) checked the brushes which are fine and cleaned the armiture and brushes. i reattached the pump, thoroughly bled the system, and even replaced the power cable from the drive unit to the computer because there was some corrosion. checked the 15amp fuse in the computer to see if it blew and it did not. checked all voltage in the system and it is exactly at 13.6V (where my charging system maintains the charge of the 2 - 8D house batteries). my next step is to disconnect the drive unit from the computer and see if i still get the ACXX current overload readout. i cannot find fault at all in the drive unit or rudder feedback unit. i am thinking the problem exists in the autopilot computer. can you help at all? any feedback is much appreciated.
I think the AC10 is maxed out at 15 amps while the AC42 goes to 30 amps. Iknow the AC10 is better with solenoid systems and the AC42 for reversing motors.

Normally this is the electric motor causing this problem. Just went on a call and had the same thing. Checked voltage coming from the AC unit to the motor and had 12 vdc then put a new one in it's place and it solved the problem. You don't have to change the pump portion, just change the motor itself. Indeed you will have fluid leaking but many times it's better than plumbing in a new pump.
