Replacement LCD Screen does not work

I accidently cracked my LCD display on my HP Pavilion notebook DV5220. I ordered a replacement screen and was able to find step-by-step instructions to replace it. All went well until I was finished and inserted the battery back into my laptop. I turned on my computer, the screen shone bright blue, i heard a "sizzling" noise, and the screen went black and will not come back on. I am positive that i plugged everything back in correctly. Did I fry the Inverter board or did I fry my brand new screen?

Hi there
The best way to determine if its the inverter thats burned out is to look very closely at the screen, if you can see a very faint image then its the inverter which has blown or the connection has worked loose.

Post back with the results please.

Good luck

    Hi again.
Take the laptop apart again and reconnect everything once more, if you still get no display then its possible you have bought a defective screen.
My advice would be to return the screen as faulty, another thing to do is make sure that the laptop itself has not been damaged, to check this plug an external monitor to the laptop, if you get a display then the laptops ok and you will need to replace the screen and possibly the inverter.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!!

Sure. It can be replaced.
In order to do this, you will need to disassemble the LCD screen panel in order to gain access to the screen itself.

Need replacement LCD Display Screen for my HP Pavilion dv9730us 17" Notebook PC Laptop. Where can I get one for a low price?

If the LCD screen is not physically broken ie a cracked screen then it could have a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp which will give you a black screen. The inverter and CCFL lamp is a lot cheaper to replace than a complete new LCD screen.

Depending on how handy you are... my friend ordered a replacement LCD screen for laptop and self-installed. Check ebay or other on-line sources for part.

Dropped my HP notebook and cracked the LCD screen

Hello and thank you for using Fixya's services.

You can order a new screen (new or used) from eBay and just switch out (simple process and you can find a replacement for under 50 dollars on eBay). You can get assistance with this from the manufacturers website and pull specs for free.

Please let me know if you have any questions and I will be glad to assist.
