Sony TV KV-27S20 Audio OK , Picture Distorted

For most repairs the $199 is a little too high.
I would find an authorized independent servicer to take it into that charges a
minimum of labor to give an estimate. $25 to $40 is average for a quality
estimate.

Since it is a Sony do not take it anywhere that gives "free" estimates. A good
detailed estimate with the actual parts needed takes time. If the technicians
time is worth nothing to look at the tv set, what is it worth?

I have always been told if it is free it probably isn't worth anything.

From experience you probably have some corrupted data in the system control
that runs the horizontal timing system. More rarely I have actually seen a
problem in the jungle ic that actually creates the horizontal timing pulses.
Worst case if you were to bring it in to us $30 to get estimate. If under $90
we would fix automatically, this saves about $15 in labor charges if we have to
put tv back together while we wait for a return call after leaving message on
estimate. Most of these run under $90 except for jungle ic replacement, it
runs a little more.

This is no way means that this is a daiagnosis on your tv set as I would have
to take it apart and do several measurements. But I have seen these 2 failures
cause very similar problems several times.

Do you mean that the picture is actualy rotated by 45 degrees??? Or
you have horizontal lines running through at 45 degrees???

In any case it can be a horiz AFC problem, or a severe pin distortion.
Also but very rare, the yoke has turned for some reason...

In any case to properly fix this, you would have to have it
professionaly done. You should ask around for a competant TV service
place. There are many that have reasonable rates and are very good.

It sounds to me like you have a "horizontal sync." problem. This can
easielly be verified with an ossiciscope.
The part to repair could run from .50 to $85

you have a problem in the Horizontal oscillator circuit, it could be as simple
as a bad capacitor, IC, or a bad solder joint. this problem has nothing to do
with the picture tube and $199 for this problem is too high. check your area
for shops that give free estimates with and without repair.
