Re: My Playstaion 3 shut down
Sony just screwed you. For some reason some PS3's just don't take the firmware update correctly, especially if you updated with a disc in the drive. If you're under warranty with Sony you're fine, otherwise get ready to pay $150 for something they're responsible for. Best thing to do is to call Sony @ 1-800-345-SONY. Make sure you tell them that you just updated the firmware and immediately after your problem occured...they might fix it for free...they should at least.

I've seen this error code going around for the older PS3's. From what I can gather, it's a HDD issue that can't be cured easily. Here are the steps to take that I found, that seem to work for all PS3 systems.
take out the hard drive
connect hard drive to pc (running windows 7 64bit, but any windows os should work without other software)
open up disk management - in win7 it asked me to make a master boot record, so I did.
format in NTSF - that's right, NTSF - don't use quick format
shut down pc, take out hd, take usb drive too
put hd back in ps3, put usb stick in ps3
a screen will pop-up saying the hard disk have to be formatted
hold start + Select for 5 sec.
After formatting the system will restart and the update will start installing
configure your ps3 setup - done
Remember to get the latest firmware from SONY onto the USB drive.
Restart the system.
Press the power button on the system front for 10 secs or more. This will force the system to shut down. After some time turn on the system again.
Also check the system is in a place where it is getting enough air to cool down as over heating also tend to shut down the sysytem
if the disc spinns then its prolly just a dirty laser lens and if it doesnt spin could be a bad laser i doubt its the blu ray logic boad cause the ones i have seen that were bad the disk reading icon never stops, this has also happened on broken lenses where it never stops. ussually if it stops its bad motor or dirty lense.
The first thing I would do is a System Update!!!!!!
This happened to me playing Army of Two until I Updated it.
With games and Some Blu-Rays (Iron Man I had the same problem) require updates to play and function properly!
Just hook up to your Network (Router or Modem) Create a Playstaion store account (To the Right on the PS3 Crossbar) Then go to the 2nd to left on the Crossbar, Then all the way up.
Grab the update and you should be Good!
This happened Twice to me, So now I always update and No probs!
You probably have something wrong with the fan inside. Open up your Slim and clean it out real good and try it to see if the problem goes away. I sometime see that dust clogs the fan and stops it from spinning.
