This camera had the ability to write and re-write T.C. (time code). It origenally sold for approx $2,000.00 circa 1995. However now outdated, analog, no viewing screen, obsolete or expensive parts I would expect to offer (in clean and working condition) around $150.00 to 200.00 Can.
It did (in Canada only) come with a docking station allowing the camera to be used for editing.
Good Luck ... Dave

Hello. I have a Sony trv318 hi8 video camera that gets no input from the lens. It plays back tapes fine and if you try to video tape something you get sound but the screen is just black.

I do not know how to fix your camera but I would be willing to buy it from you. I need to be able to play tapes so that I can transfer them to DVD. If you are interested please contact me. Tami19582009athotmail.com

To the best of my knowledge 8mm VTR's have not been available for some time now. On the other hand there are plenty of Hi8 cameras and players available after market. eBay is a great source. Keep in mind that Hi8 cameras and decks will also play standard 8mm video tapes.
There are also many video tape transfer services that will transfer your 8mm tapes to DVD or other formats of your choice. Just Google "videotape transfer service"

Hi8 Video to DVD

CCD-TRV37 is analog video camcorder and can not be hooked directly with computer because camcorder video-audio out is analog and computer needs digital format.

You can hook camcorder with DVD Recorder and burn a DVD. Now you have data in digital format and can transfer in your computer.

Hi8 camera has analog video signal / format and needs to be converted in digital format for PC storage /use.
Best option available is to hook up Hi8 camcorder with DVD recorder and burn movies on DVD. Now you have digital files of movies and can put in PC.

Sony Hi8

If you see the line while in the camera mode (actually recording a scene), then the line will be on the recording most likely. Check your tape for damage by lifting open the front of the cassette (tab on left side of tape), pull tab back while opening cover and inspect for creases or damage. Either of these cases will be non-repairable (bad recording). If the tape path is out of line the then it may be possible to have a tech realign the tape path to correct problem.

Video transfer on to dvd

You will need to fit a video capture card to your PC. Most cheap TV cards have video input. Connect the video and audio output from the camera to the PC card, start the camera on playback and record the video on PC.

It will probably record as an avi file which can be converted to DVD format using for example Nero though there are many progs agailable for free on the web. Burn the files to DVD.

Good luck
