We bought our daughter her laptop almost 2 years ago and Office has worked fine until recently when it began asking for the product key. Since Office was pre-installed (obviously not a trial version as it would not have worked for 18+ months) and we don't have a CD for it, anyone have suggestions? We tried the product key on the bottom of the laptop, which was incorrect. Would it be somewhere in the registry? We have the extended service warranty so I can call if necessary.

MS Office is not a free program. You will need to purchase a copy of MS Office 2007. For an alternative free program OPEN OFFICE is a full-featured office suite that's compatible with Microsoft Office.
If you want Open Office you can download this free program.

Ok, first posiibility is that you should have a product key for the Office product and it should be on a small instruction manual or on separete paper that comes with the laptop. second, if the laptop was previously used or opened(even before you bought it) someone might have activated the Office and the Office that comes with laptops should have 90 or 180 days of use, so if that what happend over that period ago then the Office is just asking for a new key so you can continue to use. Third posibility, the Office came as an advertisement and you may have that pop up as a reminder to register or buy, still you may find an ignore or remind me later icon. Best of luck
If you purchased the software from a retail computer-store, go back there, with what you purchased, and get them to show the product-key to you.
However, if your computer is brand-new, you may have gotten a "30-day-free-trial" version of MS Office Home and Student 2007 that was pre-installed.
After the trial-period ends, you have to _BUY_ a license (and get a product-key) to be able to continue to use the software.
You need to register the Vaio and if you are using the MS office that came on the computer you will need to go through the purchase and registration process. The version they put on computers today is a 90 day temporary trial that requires you to purchase a product key to continue using it. You can go to Walmart, Target, Best Buy and purchase the software there to get your key if you prefer. It will cost the same.
if you never entered a product key it means you didnt purchase it and need a product key or you updated your ms office to a newer version and you need to buy a new product key. what you can do is reinstall the original ms office and the original key and dont update to a newer version. back up your files tha tyou have created with office or you will lose them.
