Question about Reddy Heater-170,000 BTU Kerosene Deluxe

1 Answer

Reddy Heater teasing me:)

I've been working on a Reddy heater 115,000 for several weeks now. New ignitior, nozzle, ignitor control.... etc. It will fire every time it's plugged in, no issue at all, but it seems to randomly decide to shutdown (once 10 min. after, another40, and another over 2hours of running). There is always lots of fuel, and if you unplug it, and plug it in again, it will work every time.I would be grateful for any suggestions

Sound like there is dirt and stuff in the fuel tank.when the heater fires up it pulls this stuff up into the filter.as it runs it plugs the filter off causing the heater to shut off.whe it shuts off the garbage falls back into the tank.when you refire the heater it pulls the garbage back up again.it never pulls it up the same so the time verys every time

The heater fan runs for about 5 seconds , does not heat and than turns off.

This could be several problems. Check your fuel first. If it is old fuel from last year, get rid of it and fill with fresh. If it has water in the tank, your spraying water to your ignition source. If you have fresh fuel, it could be a fuel filter stopped up or your air pump is not set properly. Also check your ignitor to see if it is working properly. Some have a spark plug and some have a glow type ignitor.

My reddy heater 70,000 btu. kerosene & diesel fuel run for 5 seconds then stop & fupped a smoke i put new diesel fuel still the same kindly help me to solve the problem and highly appriciate it.

Assuming the "electronic safety shutdown system" is operating properly, the system is shutting the heater down becausr the control board/photocell don't like what is being seen inside the combustion chamber. That is what they are supposed to do if there is water, trash, an air leak, a vacuum leak, a broken ignitor, a worn nozzle, etc.

Your job, as the troubleshooter, is to find out why the flame is not correct. Read the tips below:

My reddy heater 115 pro starts, but shuts off after about 5 seconds of running , i replaced the filters and nozzle about 2 years ago

Here is a service manual:

http://www.desaparts.com/service_manuals.html

If the flames actually starts but the unit shuts off after 5 seconds you need to check the pump cover on your heater to make sure you have no cracks in the rear cover.
This could be from low pump pressure but most often this problem is caused from a defective control board.

Reddy heater 115,000 btu heater runs for about ten minutes then shuts off does this model have a thermostat or carb that might need adjusting????

A heater with this problem is probably the hardest to determine the cause. There is no carb orn thermostat to adj. If it uses a spark plug ignitor I would check the plug gap and make sure it is at an angle to the nozzle. If it has Hot Surface Ignition this will not be the problem. I would then check the fuel filter in the dip tube in the tank and the pump pressure. I should be about 4.5 psi. I would also remove the nozzle and replace it or at least blow it out backwards withlcompressed air to clean it. If all these items fail to correct the problem I would replace the flame sensor. Let me know what you find out or if you have any questions.
