Your bios probably is set to use the embedded keypad when the numlock is on. you can set it to numbers only when you press the FN key

It is supposed to do that.
Each key on that side also represents a number. It takes the place of the number keys on the right side of a regular keyboard. If you were typing a bunch of numbers then it would probably be faster to use that than the numbers at the top of the page. If you don't want it one then just turn off the num lock.

Alphabet keys displaying numeric

This happens when you have the Num Lk (Number Lock) key on and you have Pressed the FN Function key at the lower left hand portion of the keyboard. When this happens if you press the keys such as UIOJKLM you will key the numbers 4561230.

Turn your Num Lk off by pressing that key at the top of the keyboard.

For some reason the number lock is on my keyboard - i can*t figure out howto unlock it. i have to keep the fn key down in order to type the letters on the right hand side. how do i unlock/ thanks in...

Please follow the below instruction to fix your problem.
Press 2 keys at the same time: "FN" (next to the CTRL key, lower-left of the keyboard) and "num lk", which is the upper-right of the keyboard (it is on the same key as "scroll", and is next to "F12"). This will either turn on or turn off the "Num Lock" function. Both the "FN" and "num lk" are enclosed in a small rectangle. They are easy to see.
Hope the above information will be helpful to you. Thank you. Have a good day.

Help the leter keys that have numbera on them type numberd instead of letters how do i switch it

You more then likely have the number lock on look for a key that has a num lock(or numlk) on it if its a laptop it is more then like the letter key that has numbers on them. look for a key on the lower left hand side of the key board that has fn on it hold that key down and then press the key that has num lock or num lk on it and that should fix the problem.

In my key board m button tyed show 0 why

You probably have Number-lock active, test and see; u = 4, i = 5, o = 6, j = 1, k = 2 and l = 3.

On the bottom left of your keyboard you should find a key marked Fn. On the top right of your keyboard you should find a key marked Num LK. While pressing the Fn key, press the Num LK key once. this should unlock the number keys and allow you to type letters again.

Good luck ;)

I have done something that makes numbers appear when I hit letters? what corrects this?

On a laptop, if you enable Num Lk (usually by pressing the blue function key Fn and Num Lk), you will enable your numeric keys (as displayed in blue next to the letter). To disable, press Fn and Num Lk combination again (it will 'toggle' out of this mode).

Hope it helps: please vote accordingly!

My Dell Vostro 1000 laptop keyboard (right side) keys are not typing what I type. It is like they are out of sync. Can you help? (I am currently using a different computer to type this.

Num Lk will cause the keys on the right-hand side of your keyboard to display the alternate characters printed in blue. Just press the Num Lk key--it's the fifth key from the top right corner of your keyboard--to deselect, and your problem will vanish.

For example, I hit the number '5' and the letter

You are in Num Lk mode. To leave this mode,
press the NumLk key again, a green LED (1) will
go off indicating you are no longer in this mode.
The Num Lk key usually is in upper right corner of the keyboard.

Key pad doe not work

This means the number lock is on - in the upper right hand corner of the keyboard is a series of 4 keys.  Far right is delete, then (from the right) insert, Prnt Scrn, and Num Lk.  Hit the Num Lk key, and the number 9 with the padlock should shut off.  Your keyboard should now work normally.
Any more problems, let me know!
