The fan on the system is not working and computer shuts its self down because it over heats ... and this can cause permanent damage, the best thing to do at the moment would be, that you get a technician to take look at the laptop, don't use the computer till then.

Please Check CPU making any noise or not.

remove the CPU side door and check Fan is rotating on Processor if not it may not rotate due to heavy dust inside. ( clean it and refix it)

Check SMPS Fan is rotating or not..

If fans or not rotating Heat Builds up then computer shuts down itself.

If both fans are working...Just Open BIOS window by press DEL button continuosly while startup and wait for 2 to 3 minutes If the computer shuts down Itself in BIOS Window also then we can confirm issue with Hardware.

If Computer not shutting down in BIOS Window then issue with Operating System Boot files corrupted.

While Turn ON the system press F8 to enter in Safe Mode.

Open command prompt by clicking on

Start >. RUN >> type cmd >> then press enter.

now type chkdsk /f

now press Y

then reboot PC it fixes the Boot files error then your PC works perfectly.

If you still exp same issue let meknow..

Really need more information, but my guess is dirty fan. If fan is blocked by dust, it may make noise and may run at high speed all the time because the CPU is overheating. If CPU gets hot enough, the laptop will shut itself down without warning. If dust is the problem, get some canned air. Before blowing into the air vents, try to spot where the CPU fan is and gently insert a toothpick to block the fan and prevent it from turning. A long blast of compressed air can spin the fan too fast and burn out its delicate bearings. Blow air from underneath and also from the side vent until air blows clear. In some bad cases of dust, the bottom or top cover must be removed to get it all out.

You might want to try to go into Safe Mode.

Basically, reboot the computer and press F8 repeatedly till a DOS-like screen appears. Hopefully you'll be greeted by several options, the top (or third option in Windows 7) will be to boot into Safe Mode.

Obviously Safe Mode is our plan of attack. What this will do is bypass all drivers (including the pesky "new" driver that got loaded onto your system).

Once booted you'll want to Hold down the Windows key (on your keyboard) then hit the Pause/Break key. This will open your system window (this is where you'll see what version Windows your running and some of your system components installed).

What you want to do is left click the mouse (unless you remapped your mouse for a left-hander, then it would be right click) on the Device Manger link at the top Left hand corner of that window.
c2b416c.pngOnce in there you'll want to select your video card (it'll be inside Display Adapters) in the drop down menu and double click on it. This will bring up the properties for your video card.

Once in there you'll want to select "Driver", then hit the "Roll Back Driver" button...

Now this SHOULD remedy the situation by re-installing the older driver and giving your computer back to you. I say 'should' because I haven't run into a situation where the driver didn't roll back because your in Safe Mode; meaning, that some functions are shut off when in Safe Mode... But I haven't seen this happen for drivers (or at least don't remember it ever having happened).

Reboot and you should be all better.

Hope this helped...

Boots up windows runs for 5 mins then system shuts

You may have a cooling problem (with older computers), if you hear your fan running excessively and then it shuts down on you. Otherwise it is more likely a hard drive issue.

Acer 5002 laptop shutoff randomly

Try to cool the laptop in the sense, do not use it for some time, approx two three hrs then try to re install...
But if your laptop is old then the problem could be because the fans working beneath get old and do not run upto the mark..usually they have two fans i believe...maybe one is conked?

Hope this helps

Instantaneous shutdown of my Toshiba Satallite A105 Laptop

Hi Sam,

What operating system are you using ?

If you remember what time it last randomly shut down on you, use the system event viewer to see what errors were given just before it turned itself off. You can access the event viewer in Windows XP by clicking on the Start button, then click on Run, and in the box that pops up type in "eventvwr" and hit enter.

Click on system on the left hand side to view the log files of the system. Browse down until you find the time when your laptop turned off. Hopefully there is a series of errors there. They should be able to tell you something about why it is doing it.

Hope this helps, feel free to post some of the errors back here if you find any!

Shuts off at boot up screen?

Start the computer in safe mode (tap F8 immediately after turning it on until you see the option of how to boot)

If it successfully boots into windows, you have an issue with either driver conflicts and/or viruses. If it still restarts itself, you most likely have a hardware issue (bad hard drive, motherboard, etc)
