Question about Acer Aspire 7720 Notebook

When the machine is cold it wont boot up on first attempt. you have to switch off using power button. it does this for 3 or 4 times. on the odd occasion when it does work on the first or second attempt it freezes on desktop and i have 2 switch off using the power button. bought new from pc world xmas just gone. any advice on what to do?

    I too have the same problem,mine comes up with Press F2 but no keypad action so have to reboot with power button.Occasionally it freezes up during routine operations,very inconveinient in most cases!It had this problem fron day one.I am reluctant to return under g/tee just yet as it is only 1 week old but i have put lots of data on it.Hope it fixes itself but am having my doubts.

    I got my 7720 on Monday and every time I turn it on from cold, the machine won't start. I have to hold the power button for 4 seconds to turn it off, wait a few seconds then turn it on again. It seems to fire up fine n the second attempt.

    I phoned Acer technical support who told me that they are not aware of any problems with the 7720. This surprises me as i have read many similar problems with the 7720 on other web sites.

    acer aspire laptop will not boot from cold, I have to hold down the power button and log on again!

    Hi. Thanks for mentioning the Firmware suggestion. I phoned Acer support to tell them that my machine will not boot up from cold at first start. The technician could not give me an answer to the problem. I asked him if I should update the BIOS firmware and he did not recommended it.

    I am pretty sure that updating the Bios Firmware will indeed fix the problem but I am a bit worried about it going wrong. Should I just accept that I always have to turn it on twice from cold or should I go down the updated BIOS route?

    Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

    I have a feeling from the description you have here.. You may have a bad hard drive... Question.. do you notice the status of the harddrive light?... is it on constantly when it locks up?

Hi , this is a common problem with Acer notebooks ,they are buggers for shipping laptops without fully testing bios firmware.
I have had this on numerous customers computers , its a simple fix just visit Acer Support to download latest firmware.

The problem maybe the RAM, it could be faulty or just needs reseating to make proper electrical contact.

Acer 5315 will not switch on with power button, attempt then goes dead after 2 seconds battery light flashing amber when power lead connected but this is when power switched on or off. Sometimes it...

Try removing the battery and power on with the adapter. If you get boot, then you have a bad battery. If not then you adapter is more than likely not producing enough power to power the unit. You may also try allowing the battery to charge over night without trying to boot, If this doesn't do the trick, remove the hard drive and CD/DVD rom and one stick of memory. Try booting with just he adapter. Do the same with the other memory card and then swap memory slots and try again. If this doesn't produce a boot, you may have a broken connections in the laptop power connector. This will require a trip to a reliable repair shop.

My Compaq Presario F756nr will not turn on. The blue light to the power cord is on and blue light on front of laptop is orange but when you press the power on button it comes on then goes right off.

Hold the Power button and at the same time attempt to continually press the button for the CD/DVD drive. Continue until the status lights for power, hard drive and power button stay on for 3 seconds or longer. When status lights remain on, remove your finger from power button and allow the machine to boot as usual. Enjoy.

My computer, a lenovo y510 laptop malfunctioned. After inserting the recovery, and attempting to boot from the disk, the screen simply goes blank instead of opening the normal vista install center.

Hi lightning_ha,

Based on your situation, I suggest trying the following steps:

1. Turn on the system then insert the recovery disk inside the ODD.

2. Now turn off the computer while recovery disk is inside.

3. Turn on the computer, the moment you press the power button, immediately tap the F12 key and press it continuously.

4. Now you have the boot option. Select CD/DVD/ODD by pressing enter then continuously tap it until you see the Windows is loading a file.

5. Wait until it goes 100%.

6. Now it will ask you on what partition you will put the operating system. Just select the partition that has a large capacity or size.

7. Just wait until it completes the whole installation.

8. Restart the computer.

Periodic Boot-up Problems with Dell Latitude D600

Well I had the same problem with my Dell Latitude D600. I tried many batteries, fully charged, partially charged and even i tried scenarios with AC Power On or Off. Nothing really seemed to work as my laptop was both hot and cold. I noticed this problem was coming specially when laptop is cold.
The Solution is found is, when i have this problem, i press the power button and then move the rotate the laptop, so that its screen touches the desk and keybord is upright verticle, i know it sounds ODD, but it really made my life so easier as now this problem doesnt haunt me.  and it will boot on first, second or third go.

Normal Laptop Condition with keybord down and LCD Open
                     /                     /      / lcd
You need to move the laptop in one of the following if it is having boot problem again
       \               /          \            /            \         /  keybrd  \      /  lcd                \   /                 \/
or put the lcd down flat while keeping the keyboard in the same position as above.

I m sorry the above illustrations are pretty rough but hope u understand what i mean :)

It may be possible to startup in safe mode(press F8 on boot up) and highlight 'Last Known Good Configuration' or highlight 'Start Windows in Safe Mode. If this gets you up try a system restore to before you updated driver or look for the system recovery folder, normally on another partition of your hard drive, that is if you didn't get a recovery cd. If you are not able to get up and running you will need your Windows Installation Disc to either repair the system or do a complete re installation by putting in cd whilst you boot up. It may also be that your HDD is damaged and thats why you can hear the cd drive powering up, looking for a system disc, as it cannot find Windows.
