Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T1 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Experts, welcome to my problem of today. My Sony DCS-T1 has recently come back from Sony UK after having the common 'White Screen' problem resolved and has been fine for a few weeks. Today when switching it on, the camera 'bleeps', shows 'Format error' and flashes 'C:13:01'. I can then do nothing with the camera, cannot view pictures from memory and connot take new pictures. But the screen will view live image from the lens. Card is a 2gb Micro SD in a Micro SD Memory Stick Pro Duo Reader. When I take the 2gb Micro SD card out of the Sony camera and put it in my Nokia N95, all the pictures come up as a generic 'sailing boat' image but after double clicking, or waiting for ages, they open OK. This may just be a very slow reading / opening process as there are several hundred pics on the card. So, seems to point to the Micro SD Card being OK. In which case maybe the problem is with the Micro SD Memory Stick Pro Duo Reader (adapter, into which the Micro SD card fits, and which then fits into the camera), or in the camera itself. I have tried cleaning all the visible/accessable contacts, and multiple re-insertions of each component, but this has not solved the problem. When I take a different Micro SD card (the one that lives in my Nokia N95), and put it in the Sony camera, it shows the same 'Format error' and flashes 'C:13:01'. Anyone got any ideas fellas?? Cheers, CRASHED AGAIN.

I must be getting dyslexic, my camera is of course a Sony DSC-T1 (not DCS-T1). Sorry chaps. CRASHED AGAIN.

Hi Jim. Yes, that's the next step, try either a different adapter or a fixed memory stick, or both, neither of which I have here just now. OK. I will source one of each and come back with the results.

    Cheers for that Jim.

Tried another card in the Sony and it all works fine. So its not the camera. Tried the MicroCard in another, that works fine also. So its not the Card. Gynoing into the adapter with a mini torch, it looks as though the centre contact is slightly out of place. There is also a corresponding mark on the MicroCard. So it looks like that centre contact may have peeled back and is no longer in contact with the card. Solution: Replace adapter.

    All the best,

Hi.. I think you have solved the problem yourself... replace the adapter with a memory stick... You have eliminated the micro sd card as bad... now try a new known good memory stick..

Hi. This is a common fault on the DSC-T1 and is due to a faulty CCD. If you take it to a sony shop, they will send it to sony for a free repair (mention to them it is a common fault, and that you expect a free repair). They will send it off for you, and in a few days you will get your workingcamera back.
