Frozen screen on 2g iphone 8gb

the screen has a pic of the usb cable and an arrow pointing up to the itunes music note on a cd. there is a slide bar on the bottom and it is changing lanugages . it states for emergency calls slide. i can make calls and recieve calls. thats it !! this all started after i tryed to download firmware 2.2.1 fron itunes.what a mistake that was. this phone was running awesome!!! i was running firmware 2.2. i cannot get my icons up on the screen or are they gone? i bought this phone used droped in my tmobile sim card and it was running perfect.
