Has anyone used this router? I'm currently using a Zyxel
P100-U, I've had nothing but problems with it, and over
9 months of use, I've had to send 2 units back to Zyxel due
to numerous probs. Right now my 3rd unit is acting up so
I'm assuming it won't be long before it's shot too.
I've seen this Toshiba for $156 at several places online,
but if it's a piece of junk like my Zyxel, I definately don't
want it. Otherwise I'll probably get a 3com OCLM when
this P100 finally dies.
Thanks

I am using one now. It was a great price and a painless setup experience.
The "quick" setup procedure has defaults that support DHCP for my home
network, and NAT so both computers can access the ISP, which is a 128k
dynamic IP account. I was accessing the internet from both computers 10
minutes after I got the router.
I have no experience with other routers and I can't say how the Toshiba will
perform over time, but it sure is a neat package at a low cost.
Download the manual from Toshiba if you want more info on the 653's
features.

My first P-100 was fine for about 5 months, then it starting
locking up, or not responding, requiring frequent reboots.
After a couple weeks of similar behavior it would no longer
give me an ISDN Link indication, so as per Zyxel support,
I sent it back.
2nd one lasted about a month, then one of the pots ports
died, this was possibly due to lightning damage, there was
a very distant storm that evening, but I'll never know for sure
what the cause was.
Now my third unit is doing some crazy things. Sometimes
it locks up and I have to power down 2 or 3 times for a
couple minutes each attempt before it will finally boot correctly.
Other times people will call voice on the spid assigned to pots
port #2 yet the phone on pots #1 will ring, yet when I pick up
the phone, I get a busy signal. Then I *69 from that phone
and ask the caller what number they called, only to discover
they called my normal voice # on the OTHER pots port.
Also during heavy use, say d/ling a group of binary usenet
posts and web surfing will often cause a router lockup.
It's just not reliable. I can't count the number of times my
wife has had to go next door to call me at work to ask how
to get the router unlocked, etc.

I've got the Toshiba TR-600 and have had pretty good luck with it. I think
the main differences between it and the 653 are the POTS ports.

I have tested many ZYXEL routers so far and I never ever have had a single
failed unit.

that it worked great for this one guy. Didn't find anything on remarq.
I guess a lack of "problem" posts is a good thing?!
Thanks,
Dave

post. I recall finding scant information about it on the Web
nor on Toshiba's website. The posting I believe did not go into
too much detail on the person's setup. You may want to
check remarq or a similar site putting in the toshiba # to
maybe get the posting.
Or check # for that alternative(s) although
some on the links may be out of date
