How do I connect the mouse?

i am assuming you have a usb mouse and a PS2 connection on the computer. If this is the case then you need a female usb to ps2 mouse adapter
So that the mouse cable plugs into the USB female connection and the male ps/2 plug end goes int othe female ps2 port on the computer.
If this is the case you have the wrong converter the chester will convert a ps/2 on the mouse or keyboard to a usb on the back of the computer.. Can you tell us what sort of mouse you are trying to connect does the end of the cable have a usb plug on it a bit like the blue usb plug in your picture.
If this is the case then you need a female usb to ps2 mouse adapter
Google it and see the difference.

Make sure that all USB functionality is enabled in the BIOS, especially USB Legacy Mode. If Windows still does not recognize the keyboard, then it is not compatible with USB. USB keyboards can be found as low as $10 pretty easily if all you need is basic keyboard functions.

Dell keyboard SK-8115

(That is the the Num Lock indicator, nothing to worry about.) If it is not working it is likely because USB keyboards can time some time to be recognized by windows, let the computer boot up with the keyboard connected and let sit for up to ten minutes.

Sometimes if other hardware is detected at the same time which requires drivers to be installed, windows will never proceed to installing your keyboard, however you cannot install the other drivers until you have a working keyboard. To solve this, you will need to use an older style PS/2 keyboard to get everything installed and working as they do not need to be detected.

Keyboard to Laptop connectors

go to Amazon.com, and look up ps/2 (which is the official name for the connector type normal keyboards have) to usb adapter, and you should find a little green thing that adapts your keyboard to usb. Make sure that the usb is a male end, and the ps/2 is a female end, or you've got the wrong one.
However, before you do that, I want to let you know that I just did the same thing, and I cannot get my Gateway keyboard to work on my HP laptop through usb. I have no idea why, and I am currently trying to find a solution. So I wouldn't suggest buying it until you know how to fix it. If you figure it out let me know.
