If you have two different warning lights, it could be a wiring problem.
The low oil pressure warning could come on even if the engine is full of oil. If that is the only light coming on, it could be the sending unit or you could actually have low oil pressure.

SOURCE: A light comes on in my car that says oil pressure

If the light is only turning on during acceleration or deceleration and then goes off, this is normal. If the light is constant, and you are sure you have oil that is up to the "full" or "max" level on the dipstick while hot, then it might point to a faulty oil pump or worn gaskets that will no longer prevent the oil from staying in place in the engine. Is this light accompanied by a check engine light. If so what is the code. You may also have a faulty oil sensor. Hope this helps

SOURCE: Low Oil pressure light in idle at stop

Depending on the amount of miles, maintenance records, or how hard the car has been driven either by a previous owner, or by yourself. The engine's main crankshaft bearings or the connecting-rod bearings could be excessively worn.

Also, it could very well be a wiring problem to the sensor and/or computer causing the problem.

SOURCE: Fluctuating oil pressure gauge.

Two quarts is about half the capacity. The pump was probably starved of lubrication and is failing.

If that's not expensive enough, you may now have a problem with a damaged engine. You may want to just put that money into a new vehicle.

I don't think the car would have enough power in its present condition to get high enough to reach a cliff, and driving it into a lake would not be environmentally sound. Besides, the fine would not be worth it.

The cheapest and easiest maintainance that anyone can do on a car to avoid expensive repairs is still checking the oil ever 1000 miles (filling if necessary!) and changing it every 3000.

SOURCE: OIL PRESSUE LOW

At some point, your engine is registering low oil pressure and warning you the oil pressure is insufficient to lubricate the engine properly.

How does the engine know this? What causes it? Excellent questions. The engine 'knows' this because there is one or more sensors that read the oil pressure all the time. The sensors report to the computer which reports to you. They could be faulty. On the other hand, there could be times when oil pressure IS low. Your oil pump may be mal-functioning. Normally, I would expect the oil pump to either do its job properly or NOT do it properly but not act intermittently. It may warrant being checked by a professional. Another reason for this condition could be the oil itself, though you report you just had it changed. Presumably, whom ever did the change put in the proper oil grade, service and weight, recommended by GM.

Another thought, is this warning seen by you immediately after you start the car? If yes, it is normal for oil to take a second or two to build the proper pressure, particularly in cold weather. Where I am at, it is cold. Oil doesn't like to move when it is cold (like me) so it takes a bit of time to get up pressure (like me).

If this continues, you may want to have this problem looked at by a professional, as I said.

My Lincoln Continental 2000 Model oil light came on engine stopped after 25 feet. would not restart even though oil full. The car started the next day, but had a rattling sound at the top of the motor

Oil light is rather important it goes out if oil pressure is good comes on if oil pressure is low when it comes on damage is expected with continued operation like wearing of main bearings and pistons and cylinders can lead to a engine rebuild

Oil light comes on and is dinging.

The oil light has nothing to do will oil level, but rather oil PRESSURE. If the engine oil is full and there is no rattling or banging noises in the engine, chances are the oil pressure sending unit is bad. If noises accompany the light, then shut down the engine and troubleshooting the engines internal lubrication system.

Oil light keeps flashing, car full of oil

Low oil pressure could be the reason the oil light in your car will come on. Test your oil pressure. Without enough pressure, the oil will not reach necessary areas of the engine. The oil pressure sensor itself may sometimes become clogged with sludge from the engine, especially if the engine has not been properly maintained. A clogged oil sensor can give a false reading of low oil pressure, which will illuminate your oil light. So, check the oil pressure sensor light.

Ford escort van oil light keeps flickering

The light means the oil pressure is low, not necessarily that the engine is low on oil. It could have low oil pressure, or the pressure switch could be faulty.

Why would my oil light be coming on and beeping even though I have a full oil reservoir?

if oil level is ok, your oil PRESSURE is dangerously low.
Either the wrong oil was used, or your oil pump is going bad.

Ill bet on wrong oil since you just had it changed,

I have a 94 Land Rover Disco. Two weeks ago the check oil light come on, I checked the oil and it was full, I then checked all the other fluid levels, and they were fine. I then changed the oil, yet the...

either your pressure is low causing the light to come on , and dangerous to your engine , or the oil pressure sending unit is dead. It is just a small pressure switch that screws into the side of the engine block and reads the oil pressure. If the pressure is low , or the sensor is dead , the light comes on. Oil pressure sending units die a lot more often then oil pumps , and they are not expensive to buy , or hard to install. The hardest part of the job is actually locating on your engine. Its location should be easy to find out online.

The yellow symbol with a line under it means only to warn you if the engine oil level is low when its running. If its RED sign then this is your low engine oil pressure warning light.

Oil light comes on during full throttle

That can be caused by low oil, low oil pressure, a filter starting to clog, wrong type of oil in engine, or the oil needing changed. You should first change the oil and filter then check your oil pressure and go from there.

Oil relatied engine problem...maybe? need help

The clicking sound is from lack of oil or lack of oil pressure. When the lifters pump out then they have too much slack in them and thus the clicking or tapping sound. Sorry to say this, but the engine is either very tired or the oil pump has about had it.
