SOURCE: HP povilion entertainment pc laptop unable to use the keypad

I called a tech friend of mine at HP and he said he didn't know of any combination of keys that could turn off the keypad. I would check Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, Keyboard.

Pavilion is a laptop, it had to work at some point. If the computer can't see it, it is not connected, probably dead...you'll have to remove it to check the connections, and most likely replace it if you can't light it up with external 5V...

I want to disable the touchpad and use the external mouse exclusively

Some laptops don't have dedicated buttons but you can use Function keys (like Fn + F5 on Dell computers) to toggle the state of your touch pad. In the case of HP laptops, you can hold the top-left corner of the touchpad for few seconds and it will disable the touch pad - repeat this to re-activate it.

New laptop computers either have a physical on/off button to easily disable the touch pad or there's an icon in the system tray that lets you manage the various settings of the touchpad. If you don't have that icon, you can go to Control Panel -> Mouse Properties -> Touch Pad to enable or disable the touchpad.

The touch pad can also be disabled through the device manager. Type devmgmt.msc in the Windows Run box to start the device manager, expand "Mice and other Pointing devices", right-click and disable the driver entry that says Touch pad or likewise.

Hope this information will help.

Well, my Netbook scrolls down randomly. Either up or down. No matter what I do it won't stop, I usually bang on the directional keys and it does stop for a short period. I really don't want to keep...

Sticky keys might be the problems.
1.Press SHIFT 5 times repeatedly
2.Cleanup the touchpad on the right corners ( unit OFF )
3.Seem the PgUp and PgDn keys STICKY >>> try clean it with a dry soft brush

Unable to use touch pad....rt clk and slide key

If the laptop is that new, the problem is probably the touch pad "disable" button. Look for a small button just above or near the touch pad and make sure the touch pad is not turned off. If you cannot find the disable button, look in your user manual for the touch pad disable.

I can't get my mouse key pad to work? I had to plug in a mouse to get my cursor to work. I would rather use the keypad...help?

there are keyboard shortcuts to disable the touchpad. look among you F1-F12 keys for a small square with a finger near it. press FN and this key. if this does not solve the problem, you may need to go to hp support for drivers. here is the link:
